A comment on the future of Sonar and especially X3...
I had sorta forgotten this but IIRC Cakewalk hired Benstat about a year or so ago. For those who don't know Benstat created a LOT of mods for X1 with Sonar Plus: http://www.sonarplus.co.uk/Pages/About.aspx I think this bodes well for the future of the Sonar X series.. and certainly should dispell and thoughts that Roland may be discontinuing Sonar. Surely they would not have hired Ben if they were not planning to use him and his ideas. It would make no sense at all otherwise. If they were not going to use him and his ideas and were going to go in another direction they would surely have left him out there to make the best of what existed because... well, why should they care? If you think about it... this bodes very well for the future of the Sonar X series and I imagine that we will see Ben's fingerprints all over X3 and perhaps somewhat in any b or c versions of X2... but I think they will save most of his work for X3. I would. Anyway... a little food for thought. Some positive thought!! Julien

jbow- this is a helpful post.
I see your line of thinking. I actually wasn't aware of Sonar Plus at all, and reading through the stuff on that link I'm very intrigued with the notion that some of those cool features might possibly make it into the main Sonar offering.
Some things I've been wishing for are already there in Sonar Plus. Very cool!
Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

I feel like if Sonar were to be ditched, it would simply become what Adobe Audition was, a re-invention of Cool Edit Pro.
Brian Sonar Platinum, Steinberg Wavelab Pro 9, MOTU 24CoreIO w/ low-slew OP-AMP mods and BLA external clock, True P8, Audient ASP008, API 512c, Chandler Germ500, Summit 2ba-221, GAP Pre-73, Peluso 22251, Peluso 2247LE, Mackie HR824, Polk Audio SRS-SDA 2.3tl w/upgraded Soniccraft crossovers and Goertz cables, powered by Pass-X350. All wiring Star-Quad XLR or Monster Cable. Power by Monster Power Signature AVS2000 voltage stabilizer and Signature Pro Power 5100 PowerCenter on a 20A isolation shielded circuit.

Maybe Ben can help them come up with ways to turn things off in SONAR X3. Things like that blasted Docker which seems to dock things that I don't want docked when I'm in a mad hurry.

I was just thinking the other day about how they hired that mod guy. I hope he's still there. Sonar's design needs extensive fine-tuning after the X1 overhaul. There should be a separate "skin" for touch, so all of us non-touchies can enjoy a more efficient workspace.

Just use the Ctrl key when you're dragging the GUI of a soft synth or FX plug and it.will.not.dock.

Yes, I know, but that should be the way to dock if you intend it to, not the default in my opinion. Most times I, and I would think a lot of others, just want to move the PRV (or whatever) to a slightly different place and then, 'pop' the darn thing gets docked. There are many similar behaviour options in Prefs (eg what do you want when dragging a clip) and I think this should be one.

I never use the Multidock. I'd love to be able to get rid of the waste of space it occupies even when it's closed. And the same goes for the Browser for that matter. Why on earth do we have to see anything of it when it's closed

You may remember that when they bought patents for the hydrogen powered cars, the hydrogen was highly explosive in an accident. So, you put water in, plugged it into the wall and off you go with zero co2 emissions. Just don't get crashed into from behind because you would leave a crater in the road.

On the other hand, I love the dock. Everything but the timeline goes into it on my righthand screen - console, effects, synths. I also divide the timeline so the broswer goes over there. It makes it real simple for a simple boy. Two things I do wish for: the ability to drag tabs w/in the dock and a matched 23 inch screen for the dock screen. Right now it is a little short at 20 inches. But yea, there is no reason for the dock not to have a preference setting. @

You can completely remove the Browser and Inspector in X2 now. At this time, the MultiDock cannot be removed unless DuckBar is installed.
