    Contrats Steve!
Never heard one but it looks excellent and I like that it has a 12".
    Curious what the ISF is.

I've heard good things about Blackstars, but haven't played through one myself yet.

    Clips would be nice.

    Thanks guys.

Mike, the ISF is basically an equalisation/tone shaping tool, but Blackstar explain it better than I ever could

    From the handbook:

    ISF (Infinite Shape Feature)
The ISF control works in conjunction with the Bass, Middle and Treble controls. It
allows you to choose the exact tonal signature you prefer. Fully CCW has a more
American characteristic with a tight bottom end and more aggressive middle, and
fully CW has a British characteristic which is more ‘woody’ and less aggressive.

    And from the website:

    Re:A companion for Ruby! 2011/10/11 18:09:08 (permalink)
NICE!!! I love amps. One cannot have too many amps. I've been eyeing the Egnater Tweaker 88, the Marshall Class 5, the Mesa Trans Atlantic, tne Orange Dual Terror, the Fargen Mini-Plex, and the Traynor DarkHorse and YCV20WR combo... and I still want a MESA Mark III or Mark V and I suppose I will want a 100w Plexi Marshall that I have absolutely no use for until I finally buy one... and a Bluesbreaker and a VOX AC30 CC...
Now I have a modified Fender CVR (Added neg feedback w/switch), a Line6 Flextone III Plus I use in the den to play with the TV and CDs, a CRATE V-16 blonde, two Jordan 2x15 combos, several smaller Jordan amps, two Tweed Champ clones (I built), a Valvetech VAC 1x12, A VOX VT-15, an original Scholtz Rockman, POD II, a Marlboro Smokey, two "living room lions".. old handwired amps that use those smaller tubes, A small Park amp, a Crate Powerblack running through a Tweed Deluxe cab with a Emi Texas Heat 1x12, a Fender Frontman 1x10, and if I go upstairs and look I am sure I forgot something... oh a small SS bass amp too. A Roland mini-cube... used to have a Cube 60 but it went to Katrina relief to Gris Gris man along with a Stratocaster... so many people in NOLA lost so much gear...
I wont attemp to get into the pedals and guitars but I do need to finish a Telefaker I am building
and a Tweed Deluxe clone (with a Bandmaster OT) I am building...
I shuld sell some stuff... but I LOVE amps and OD/Dist pedals. I love them more than I love guitars... and I love guitars. There is nothing as theraputic as a LOUD dirty power chord...

my ears are ringing... I cannot figure it out...

Of curse the Blackstar HT 5R is going on my bucket list... I am only buying small stuff right now because I plan to buy a Studiocat desktop before the end of the year... so I need to sort of lay low... and there is also that Yamaha DTX 530K drumkit I want... maybe I should sell a couple of metal detectors as a jesture, laff. What the heck... you only live once and money is for spending and I am truly convinced that it will soon be worth nothing more than the paper it is printed on... so my current philosophy is... if you want it: BUY it while you can. Guns, silver, and ammo... things of value when push comes to shove.

I love your new amp... it made me come alive. Seeing it gives me excitement. I would ove it if you would post some clips... no effects andmore clean than dirty. IMO, distorted overdriven amp demos tell me nothing about the amp. I would LOVE to hear some clean to slightly hairy tones.

    Congrats from an amp lover!

PS, I like the way they have the speaker protected at the bottom cab port if it doesn't rattle. How hard is it to get in there and experiment with different tubes?

Unfortunately, I'm like jbow so when I had to sell 13 guitars and 20 amps it just about killed me...  Some of the new low-wattage amps are really interesting!

I've just been looking at these on the Blackstar website.

I love the look of the 2 high 1X12" stack and head based on this model.

    Metal mania in minature.

I'll bet this sounds the bomb, without the prospect of causing the street to get a petition out to evict the Strummy.  I'm sure it'll be enough to scare the immediate neighbours and keep their cats off the lawn though...

That full sound without the SPL has got to be a good thing for micing up I would think too.

It all sounds like great fun to me.

I was tempted by that mini-stack* Jon, but another £100 for the extra speaker seems a little too much to be honest, and in any case the combo version has ins/outs and controls identical to the separate head. You can also drive another cabinet (I have me and SidStrummers' 2x12" cab in the attic ) to run alongside the built-in cone, or disconnect that completely and drive two external cabs.

I guess I really got it for the valves, and the speaker emulation send that I can output direct into SONAR. Turning off the power stage means that the onboard speaker stays silent, so I can monitor the sound straight off my TonePort when recording (whatever that is 'eh Baps ).

I also intend to experiment with miking up the speaker. LOL I've only got one microphone so that's another reason the extra speaker in the stack would have been superfluous.

    * I was also tempted by just about every amp they make

It's all about the tone. I don't make a small single ended amp very often but it's all I use for recording. If you ever see a Garnet Gnome for $300 or less grab it. 2 tubes, 8" speaker, amazing tone.

Haven't done any work on Blackstar products. They are not big sellers in my area or they don't break, I still haven't figured out which.

The 12" speaker opens up a lot of tone options and since the tube count is low you you can do all sorts of tests and substitutions. It's hard to find matched sets of old tubes in good condition but 1 is never a problem.

    Regards, John
