A couple of songs I would love some feedback on.

I have been working on a project for a few friends of mine. I am trying to finish it up and I know there are some issues I still want to address but would love some feedback on these early mixes. I hope to post a few more songs in the days ahead.

    Excellent production! My dad is an Elder and my brother is a Deacon in the Church of Christ and "It is well" has been across my lips several times throughout my life...The song "All things thru Christ" was recorded very well there was a couple of things I was hearing something with the ride in the chorus...anyway loved it thank you for sharing...

    Very nice job. I like them both. 

    The girl can sing! 

    No really big crits to speak of. The mix was well balanced, and nicely recorded. 

    My only crit is there seems to be a reverb over the mix that is IMHO a bit to strong.  It has the effect of "blurring" the lines in the music a bit and making it sound a bit distant. 

    The songs are so well produced..... good job.

    Hi Agape, I'm going to give some advice the way I give myself advice, when I listen to my tracks for polishing/mastering.
     
    "It Is Well"
     
    Lead Vocals: Sound really good. Any adjustments would be to the reverb length. Compression sounds good.
    Harmony Vocals: Volume down 1-3dB, EQ adjustment at 700-1100Hz down 2dB, Reverb trail shortened a bit (may not be needed after volume and EQ adjustment. Primary purpose to remove mids/mud.)
    Strings: Bring highs down 10000Hz<, will allow highs to be tempered without deminishing volume. Strings are a bit too constant. Try dropping an octive during a verse, remove them from a verse, or play a harmony/pizzicato/or melody accompaniment.
    Bass: Didn't hear much of a bass, other than piano. The cello was washed out later on in the song (could totally be my current speakers). Relisten to tracks, focusing on <700Hz for all tracks.
     
    There it is. This is the advice I give myself, and is by no means gospel. Take what you can make useful. Great song by the way. I love it.

    Thanks everyone. I felt like the reverb was a bit much but I love reverb so even when I try to back off it is still way too much. The thought of It is Well was that it should sound like it is in a cathedral but too much is too much.

    First time trying to record strings and had to do a lot of fixes on them. The ladies that played are not bad players but after recording them the intonation was way off and had to go in with V-Vocal and fix every note. They also did the arrangment which was simple which is good in one way but I would have preferred a bit more variation.
     
    I heard the same thing on the ride. I tried Channel tools to widen the stereo field a little on the cymbals but it seemed to do something strange to the ride.

    I listened to both, and found them generally to be extremely well done.  That gal does have some lungs!  I'm reluctant to comment on the mix as I was listening on pc speakers, but from what I could hear both mixes felt well balanced.  I am inclined to agree with Herb on the reverb being a bit too heavy.

    Overall, I enjoyed listening to both and think your friends should be very happy.

    played and recorded live? kudos then! It is Well sounds a million dollars to me. you cannot beat a great lead vocal! verb sounds fine on my phones...but then it is always better on phones!

    Beautiful, reminds me of being in church as a kid, those old melodies stick with you forever. Nice pipes as well. Love the bgv's so lush.
