A little over..
three years ago I had the pleasure to collab with Warren ( evadianepug). I opened the file to checkout X2a and wound up doing a remix. I thought some may like to hear it. - update 12-30-12 mix. Haven't been mixing in quite some time so pointers good and bad are cool. Thanks to Warren for a great fun time and wishes for a great holiday to everybody. Michael Had to reload. I noticed I had bumped a guitar part out of time- drug it somehow without realizing.

FYI, Michael did all the music on this, mix and everything for the song.. I just did vocals. I was totally blown away with his musical prowess. Who couldn't sing to that? I listen to this one A LOT! I am really happy to see you here, Michael. I'm thinkin' there's another Beatles tune I've wanted to do since then. Email me if you have a chance. warren@acsource.com Merry Christmas, buddy!!

Really cool tune. Great vox and playing. Interesting tones. Is that a guitar with effects on the melody? Really nice sounding production here.

Thanks guys and Janet. Grant that is from a Roland GR-30. I didn't have a sitar. It's also the first and only time I've used a capo...and on a cheap Chinese acoustic. To lazy to re-do now that I have a nice sounding Guild. I don't think I have to worry about being a producer in demand LOL. Really just wanted to check out X2a and thought Warren would get a kick out of it. He sure made it fun....13 vocal tracks! Well in world that "Ke$sha's "TiK ToK" sold more copies than any Beatles single.... all I can say is ****egeist. Ok...be that way....s-h-i-t-e-g-e-i-s-t.

Pretty good mix. Bass levels are not bad, guitars are clear. The vocals are really well recorded but, along with the bass are perhaps a bit warm for the style of song. I like them but I might cut a little more out of them. I would really have liked to have heard the vocals panned to one side and the harmony and guitar on the other, al la abby road stereo style of the day, but that is just a personal preference. The only serious critique I would have given had I heard this back then, was that the vox are a little breathy which signifies a either a lack of confidence in the performance or a need for more practice. I thought the harmonies were outstanding.

This is great Spacey! Mind if I give you some of those pointers you were looking for? I'll go easy on you, I promise. :) The first thing that sticks out to me is....I'd of loved to have heard that acoustic mic'd. Just a pet peeve of mine and I know you weren't going for perfection here, but the lined in acoustic type sound just ain't for me. If it's mic'd, my apologies...it just sounds DI or acoustic pup-like. Good sound though for what it is. Bass is definitely a bit too boomy for my taste and could use a high pass and maybe a slight bump at about 2.5-3k to make the transients in the execution come out a bit more. Kick drum is definitely boomy if it exists...something comes in that appears to be a kick of sorts at one point...or maybe that's the low end on the bass thumping from 1:24? Vocals are beautifully executed. Two issues I hear though. The first is you could probably low pass a bit on them as they seemed to have a bit too much air and sizzle in them. The other issue is....I can hear the vocal punch-in spaces. They come in as little clicks and excessive breaths that should either be eliminated in my opinion, or faded in if you want to keep some of the breathiness. But the punch clicks are apparent to me...so I'd definitely remove those. But the timbre's on everything and levels are really good and of course the performances on everything are awesome! Definitely an acceptable mix if you totally discard everything I've said. A great attempt considering your time off as well as using a totally new program. Nicely done...thanks for sharing and I hope you do so more often. :) -Danny

Thank you Shad, Scotty, Herb and Danny. Special thanks to Shad and Danny for suggestions/tips. Danny you hit on issues that I sure recognize too. I didn't mic the acoustic and sure don't have excuses as much as reasons. Cheap guitar, direct and (hate to admit) first time with a capo...man the first recording I had the thing on upside down and Robbie let me know something was bad wrong LOL. At least I have a pretty good acoustic now but not set-up to mic. Definately an area for major improvements needed. The bass and bass drum...well that's on me. To top it off I pulled a stupid too. I messed up on keeping track of my versions and got sidetracked correcting a mistake of bumping one of the guitar parts out of time...didn't notice until after I posted it so correcting the guitar part I saved wrongly and that eliminated what I think was better eq on bass and bass drum....geeze. Of course I don't know if those settings were any better. I'll try to make the suggested changes and repost. Again, thanks for all everybody. Michael

Thank you James, Daryl and Kev! Here it is with changes made...also posted link in OP. Bass, bass drum, vocal and some on right guitar...mostly eq/volume tweaks. Had my first bad trip with X2a. I had to reset the configuration file. Lost all audio but only in Sonar for unknown reason.

Shad- I like the way they panned many of the Beatles works too. One version has Paul and his guitar on the right and everything else on the left. Robbie- well I'm sure glad that all of them didn't post their versions at once here. Thank you Beagle, Phill, Frank and James.
