That looks like a mastering rig more than a recording studio. It is as you say though, very sexy.

Looks like it's in mastering condition in the picture. On the video you can see that it's most likely the same room they're recording in.

Um, possibly super dumb question, but how does it work with three each for the monitors?  Is the middle one a blend of left and right, or???

Every time I see that photo I think of a local band made up of friends and aquaintances who forcefully suggested to their local recordist that their CD project must be mixed and mastered in that room at Blackbird by another friend of theirs. The decision wasn't announced graciously. :-S

It was no surprise when it came back sounding clear and clean... you could easily hear how absolutely out of tune the singing was.

    Big time!!!

I am admirer of Blackbird, they don't go in for the hocus posus.

Let me get back to you on that...  My acid trip is just starting and I think I need to stare at those walls for a little while, like 18 hours, without blinking...  BRB...

On Klaus Schulze's CD with Lisa Garrard there is an extra bit that is about 10 to 15 minutes long where Klaus is talking to an engineer about some minute detail on the mixing and mastering of the piece ... and it is really far out ... it was about taking this particular thread that he had and setting it up differently, so it would give an even wider range of feeling to it.

I guess I am not totally enamored by the rig, because so much of it gets used for ... not enough different music for my tastes. It's one thing to see Steven Wilson talk to Klaus and then see this other special about effects and adjusting the recording of the piece (mastering it?) ... but I can't help feel, sometimes, that for rock band purposes, that all that simply gets ... wasted?

But I bet that Bapu would give his __________________ along with Mooch's _____________________ to have a few minutes with one of these places. He wouldn't even feel lost!

(I was thinking steak and fries, btw!)
