A new Pugtones instrumental tune. (new mix)

This is a tune we wrote and recorded over the last month. This tune features Rich Arizmendi on Sax, Warren on Bass and I played the guitars, programmed the drums and did the final mix.

I hope you enjoy Promise Me

Thanks fo taking a listen.

(OK - in this new mix, I brought the drums down in the mix and took off some of the reverb, I brought the bass guitar up and did a fade out at the end it didn't end so abruptly)

Wow, this is really might fine. Very nice Sax playing... Really laid-back and smooth. I like the guitar sound (love the tone on the solo especially)really sweet and Warren did a fine job on bass as well. Really good mix!!! Drums sound quite fine for programmed.

Mix sounds terrific, and the arrangement leaves a whole lot of spaces to shine.

    One problem though:
the drums are too loud, and the beat is wrong in a few spots. I get where you were going with it, with the interesting timing hits on 8th and 16th notes, but it took me out of the mellow feeling a tune like this should give the listener. It felt like the drums were the front instrument, when at most they should be fourth. And the break at the end doesn't work at all. I thought the mp3 had run out!

That being said, well done, guys.

    Hey CLEAN,

You guys are killing me softly with your song. Major kudos to Rich (the sax player). And who's the bum doing such a great job with only 4 strings. Hope no more Mark, I am enjoying this big time. Those guitar chops are so smooth. Production sounds great to me. Excellently well done guys, bravo!

I agree with Rick's choice of the word "classy". This has a really nice vibe. Almost a little psychedelic in parts. I would bring up that bass geetar a tad!

    Great work fellas!

Mark, I was just thinking about you a few minutes ago, wondering where you'd gone...and here you are again!  Sheesh--I just got caught up on my songs forum listening yesterday..or was it the day before...and I check in today and some of my favorites are here again!  Anyway, yeah, this is great.  It doesn't get much better than you three playing and it sounds like a great production.  :-)

Thanks everyone for the comments. I've put up a new mix - I'm not sure I don't have the bass up too high in this new one.

Janet - good to see you - it's good to be around again. I've been really busy. So, I haven't had much time to hang out here. We do have five or six new ones we are doing.

I'm going to make it around here a bit more - it's always easier for me to find time in the fall and winter.

    See you soon.

    Good to see you back.

For me the Sax might be just a bit too loud. That's a hard call.

    The Bass seems right though.

    Nice piece.

    This is a beautiful piece.

I hear some timing issues with the drums and also with the bass, mostly near the beginning.

Really nice work outside of the drums.  Timing is bad and don't much like the slap echo on the rim shot.  Doesn't fit the rest of the mix.

Classic PUGS effect on the percussion. Nice seperation of all the instruments. KUDOS on the super fine clean mix. Love the tones of the sax. I'm also digin the tone and how the bass sits in the mix. GREAT  JOB!

Nice of everyone to listen.  Mark wrote this tune and it is a pretty one.  I will admit that I, Warren, the bass player, have some timing issues here.  Yes, it's the heat!!!!  My balance is off and I missed the timing when I was falling off the chair!  Thanks, for all of us, for the flattering comments.

Hmmm...I'm sure I commented on this great tune
a couple of days ago. I guess I did something wrong

Anyway... Warren, Mark and Rich; outstanding song/performances and mix!

A really 'uptown' sound! Cool chord changes and great phrasing and tone from everyone.

    Love it!

This could be outstanding..like David Sanborn and David Gilmour somehow ending up on the Twin Peaks soundtrack ..but those drums do need fixing, they really detract from the mellow groove.

I'm listening to this through a karoake box at the back of an apartment building put out for the trash (it's come to that...sigh). Sounds good from here.

I liked your fade out. Just the right length.

Thanks to everyone for your comments.  Mark sent me this song prior to my ordeal with oral surgery.  Lord willing, I have another 2-1/2 weeks left before I can entertain the idea of playing sax again.

Thanks to Mark and Warren for letting me contribute to this project.
