A new tune of sorts

I finally managed to 'finish' another one. This one is really a tracking and composition test, so it's fairly short. But I like the way it came out in a lot of ways. As a test it has served it's purpose well. I learned a lot in the process. I could obviously mix it into a far more perfected state, but I don't know if that would really serve this type of song and it wasn't the point. Getting it to this point showed me where I'd failed to get it right during tracking. Still, it kind sounds cool I think.

It's definitely mixed old school, designed to sound nice turned up loud, getting a nice Fletcher/Munson buzz going. It may be a little fat bottomed? I dunno. I kind of like a heavier, solid bottom end. The toms are probably a bit flabby. I took the approach where I mixed the drums down after recording, and kind of pretended that they were a stereo track mixed down during tracking (8 track days), so I could only work with the stereo track after that.

Dean, I hear alot of potential in this tune. I Absolutely love the mood and feel you have with it. I can't make out most of the lyrics, so can't comment on the song as a whole. I think that the drums are fine, but they sound like they are in a different room from the rest of the recording. IMO, they need to have a tighter sound to match the rest of the recording. Maybe the stereo track approach is the not the best this time?

Looking forward to how this one progresses.

Yeh, I may break down and go back and re-process the drums now that the other stuff is in place and I can process them i context.

Unfortunately I couldn't listen to this loud.  :-(  But I like the tune.  Well played and sung!

Thanks. You don't have to listent to it loud of course :-) I was just saying that, unlike a lot of modern music which is so limited and compressed and just becomes an assault on teh senses when played loud, this one has a lot more dynamics and a fairly laid back mix that sounds kind of nice at a good volume, or hopefully it does.

     It's a beautiful arrangement.

Not able to listen to the mix critically... but it sounds real nice.
