A question about MIDI Controller Messages

Hi All!

I've imported a midi file from a different program into Sonar 8.5.

The midi file has various controller messages attached to it, so when I play it within Sonar (using my Yamaha MO8 synth as a sound module) the instrument patches play the selected sounds "only" if I play the file from the beginning. If I play the file from the middle I get random instruments playing instead of the "selected" ones.

So I suppose I need to find a way to delete the controller messages from the midi file within Sonar.

Can anyone help?

Harpo

Simple - go to Event List view and work from there (rtfm or use the Help file) deleting the messages. What is helpful is to have some knowledge of what the message are. Found these using Google:
    continuous controllers:
    http://improv.sapp.org/do...llers/controllers.html
    MIDI message table:

Another way to delete inserted events is to use the Select By Filter menu item. If your patches are changing, those are patch/bank events. Try this to delete them all at once.

Select the track, go to Edit>Select>By Filter. In the window that opens click NONE at the bottom right corner. Then, put a check mark in the box labeled PATCH. Then click OK. Do NOT click the track. Hit the Delete key immediately after closing the Filter window. That should delete ALL the bank/patch change events in the selected clips.

This will work on multiple tracks at the same time. Just select all tracks/clips you want to delete events on, open the filter window, select the events, click OK and then hit Delete.
