A question regarding compression side-chaining

What is the best, Sonar Platinum compatible compressor to use if I want to side-chain, in order to create a ducking effect?

I can't say which plug-in is best. Here is a video describing the feature using one of the bundled PC plug-ins http://youtu.be/tkWeQR4UJf0?t=2m14s

The Sonitus compressor and PC4K S-Type Bus compressor can both sidechain, as can the optional-at-extra-cost PC4K S-Type Channel Compressor and PC4K Expander/Gate.

For ducking, I usually use the Sonitus because the variety of parameters allow tailoring the ducking to the program material.

I'd love to wake up one day and are VST Sonitus plugins are included with Platinum. Were they written by cakewalk or were they outsourced or bought? I wonder if cake has the source code.

Sonitus was a separate company that Cake ended up buying.  They own the code, but not the coders.

I find the Sonitus to be pretty easy to use for this and very customizable. For a ducking effect it makes little sense (to me at least) to go for a spectacularly priced third party alternative. Dance type ducking is kind of a side effect of an extreme way of using the compressor. Not much subtlety going on there.

Thx... Time to make the most of their investment IMHO.

I hope the OP is still reading after this turned into a feature request thread, because it occurred to me that depending on what you need the ducking to do, a gate might be a better option. The Sonitus Gate has variable attack, hold, and decay times, as well as the option to set the degree of attenuation when gating. I tend to use it more than compression for tasks like dropping music beds slightly behind narration.

I agree with Craig about the Sonitus compressor and gate. You can do sidechain stuff with various plugins, but despite their age, the Sonitus plugs are the ones where you can really do some fancy tricks and go deep with it.
