A rare midwinter complaint: it's too damn hot!

OK, maybe not for you guys in Australia, but for this web-footed Pacific Northwesterner it's like tanning under those heatlamps that keep your burgers at maximum freshness at McDonald's.

It's 10AM here and it's been in the 80's since about 7 this morning. Fortunately, I got up at 2AM and enjoyed my coffee while it was still in the 70's.

I am bright pink in color except for the spots I missed applying #50 sunscreen to - those are bright red. I don't speak a whole lot of the local language, but I get the joke when I hear "alsdkfjalsdfjdkfxLOBSTERzalsdkfjasd" followed by guffaws all around.

But it's absolutely beautiful here among the mangos and bamboo under a cloudless sky. Aided by a local herbal remedy to ease the sting of burnt flesh, it's mellow indeed. I hope it's snowing where you all are.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

In the hopes this makes you feel better... GFK was down to about -23 shortly before sunrise today, and the wind chill index somewhere around -45.  At this moment, I would trade you some of that sunshine for a bit of this chill... definitely time for spring!

    Safe travels to you.

I not only have a beautiful new cobalt-blue roof now, but my neighbor was able to repair his damaged roof using the materials scavenged from mine (the pieces that could be found, anyway). We'll all be ready for the rainy season. And luckily, my furniture had been quickly moved into the garage after the roof disappeared and didn't suffer too much water damage.

The remarkable thing is how quickly the flora has recovered from the storm damage. I am amazed at how fast things grow here. If humans were to suddenly disappear, I'm sure it would revert to its natural state in less than a year. Except for having far fewer large coconut and mango trees, it's quite lush and green. Bamboo that had been crushed under falling tree branches is now standing 40-60 feet tall. And the fast-growing fruit plants are yielding delicious bananas and papayas. Fresh cold watermelon in February, quite a treat.

    Too hot?  Oh, shut up.

    Did I just say that??

Yep.  lol  Supposed to get up to 60 this weekend, but after all this snow, it will probably be a muddy mess for weeks.  But bring on the heat!!

I worked with a crew from Portland Oregon yesterday.

They looked pale next to me.

I hope you enjoy your time in the islands.

Every time I go down to the Keys I fall back in love with my child hood home... but I am also reminded of the fact that I start sweating as I get out of my morning shower and don't stop till I'm laying in bed 12+ hours later with the AC turned on high... or is it low?

    Don't get too sun burned!!!

    best regards,
    mike

Yes you did. But that's ok.
I'm sure tomorrow, I'll be muttering some colorful adjectives under my breath about Dave's fresh, cold watermellons, as I am strapped to a pole, 30' above the ground in the wind and snow.
But I also get to work outside when the weather is nice, so it's a fair trade.
I'll bet that cobalt blue roof is right pretty, Dave. And it's cool that your neighbor was able to use the parts form your old roof.

Yeah, as I sit here wishing it was summer, I remember last summer when it was too darn hot to be outside, even by the lake.  So, I guess I'm hoping for spring and fall. :-)

Janet, I've been to Missouri in August, and I'll take a blistering 72-degree day in a balmy Seattle summer, thank you. I reckon MO averages out just right, if you average over 12 months.

A light breeze has just kicked up, aiding the evaporative process just enough to make the day quite tolerable now. Or maybe it's just the aforementioned herbal remedy in conjunction with the nearly-frozen mango juice I'm sipping. I wonder how much worse my sunburn would get if I went down to the beach for awhile...

Glad to hear you're having a blast Dave.

We're expecting more snow tonight here in NC.... this is the 4th accumulating snow of the year..... supposedly. We'll see tomorrow.

I could deal with some 80 and 90's right about now.

Good to hear that you're enjoying yourself Bit.
If it makes you feel any better, when I left my house this morning it was 4 degrees. But by noon it was a balmy 22.

Enjoy your trip. We'll try and save ya some snow.

Glad you're enjoying your self Bit! But don't brag about it; Too hot? It's never too hot!

It's around 0 degrees in Oslo (Celcius that is). That's about 32 degrees farenheit, right? Going to be colder from tomorrow. Surprisingly mild for winter but still too cold! And the snow is pissing me off! Oh well, I intend to settle down somewhere snow doesn't excist.

    What a stupid natural phenomenon!

Enjoy the trip and the herbs

Yeah, the average around here would be about right.  We have some friends who moved to Florida last year and they said Florida's got nothin' on our heat and humidity in July and August.

Blistering 72-degree day?  That sounds cool to me.  lol
