A sad Father's Day note - updated.

As some of you know, my mother passed away last September (nearly 10 years to the day of my father passing away).

Today I got the news that my step father (who brought my mother such joy in last 5 years of her life) is in hospice and is expected to pass within a day or two. He is unconscious and I believe he is not in pain and I hope that he passes quietly and effortlessly.

<edit:update> Thank you all. My step-father, Jim, passed away today (Monday June 20th, 2011) at 6:45PM.

Sad news. Wish you well in this difficult time.

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

    Thank you everyone.

When my mother passed Jim had told me that they both had expected him to go before Christmas 2010 (based on his condition). So we have been expecting it. Does not lessen the sorrow though.

Thank goodness for the hospice organizations.

They have been very kind to my family over the years.

They make "knowing" that things are going to happen just a bit easier.

    best,
