A song for Alzheimer's patients, lovers, family, and friends
To All, Alzheimer's is a tragic disease that affects a growing number of people. I do not know anyone personally that has gone through this but I thought about those couples that have been together for years and how hard it must be for one to drift apart. This song is dedicated to them. I pray that a cure will be found someday. I would love to put this music to video. I will be contacting the Alzheimer's Foundation http://www.alzfdn.org/ to see if they can provide some pictures. I am not a good orchestrator so I kept this very simple. Comments are welcome. Thanks to all my fellow forum members. Jimmy Saad Rimshot http://soundcloud.com/jimmy-saad/how-long

That's a nice song Jimmy, thoughtfully done. It has the feel of a traditional celtic lament to my ears.

Yeah, my dad had it pretty bad when he passed... I was staying with him and helping him before we had to put him in a managed care facility :-( I remember one night hearing a commotion in his room in the middle of the night, and I went in to see what was going on. He was on his hands and knees and patting the floor? He said he was putting out fires... I hooked him under his arms and lifted him on to his bed (probably 220 lbs.) It was an impressive dead lift. And he said, "wow! you're pretty strong for a woman!" It was sad, but it was funny too :-) He thought I was a nurse. I laughed and said, yeah dad :-) I guess I would be pretty strong for a woman :-) What was wild is that my very young son (he turned 1 the day my father passed... My dad always knew his name, and always knew it was his grandson? Even though he would confuse pretty much everything else. Something about his grandson, simply could not be taken from his memory. Well I'm tearing up now... It's a nice song, and a horrible disease. In loving memory of Mr. C. J. Robbins, may he rest in peace with all of his memories... He was a good man, and a good father.

Very moving Jimmy... it is devastating to go through this with a loved one... I can only imagine what it must be like for the patient... Fox news recently reported on Glen Campball's struggle with the disease... Well done...

Radio, thank you. Perhaps more orchestration would help. James, thank you too. I don't know where that melody came from but as soon as I found it, it was special.

Hey Notat, thanks for the good words. I worked with Glen Campbell's chief engineer at Capital Records. He told me how Glen used to lie flat on his back with all the lights out in the studio to sing his greatest hits. I loved his music growing up. Rimshot

You've managed to capture the emotional loss that comes with this disease. You singing is plaintive, and the arrangement effectively conveys the lyrics. I would love to hear some acoustic guitar to balance the piano, but it's not really necessary. Fine, fine work.

While all disease is bad to have, this one especially is devastating on the family. Not only do we understand the final outcome is death, but we loose the person we know and love well before the end. All the memories fade. It's heartbreaking to say the least. Excellent song. As far as pictures, I would recommend one of the online libraries where you can legally purchase the rights to pictures and perhaps even some video clips. I doubt the AF will give you much assistance in this endeavor. This is from my experience in the past trying to get permission to use clips from a video that an organization gave away for free to everyone..... they told me I was not allowed to use it at all.

Hi Jimmy, This is a really nice song. I like your arrangement. Personally, I mix the vocal back just a hair and trim a bit of the bass from your voice. Your vocal is really nice. You've got a really good voice, but there's a few spots I'd consider pitch correcting. I really like the basic vocal though. This is a solid song. All the best with it. Peace, Ian

Hi, Jimmy, This is a very emotional and moving song, great songwriting with a deep sentiment. I lost my Grandfather, Father, two uncles and an aunt to this horrible disease, so unfortunately, I know first hand about the devastation that it causes. Actually the second or third song I ever posted here when I first joined the forum four years ago was a song called "Fade" that I wrote about Alzheimers. Anyway, the piano and strings on this sound warm and very well textured, and provide a perfect pad for your excellent vocals. The mix sounds great, but I agree with Ian about possibly lowering the lead vocal just a Db or two, so it doesn't stick out quite so much over the keyboards. Of course that's just a subjective opinion and you've already got a really nice mix. Wonderful song, Jimmy, fantastic job! Bob
