A soundtrack sketch

I never got this one finished. It was a bit too much for my computer to handle, so I had to just drop it. It ends just when it should start, and it isn't even mixed. Anyway, I thought I'll share it, if someone would like to comments some of the ideas :)

I had something like an escape from a prison in my mind with this. I was after a "hollywood"-style film / videogame soundtrack, so harmonically it is quite simple and actually kind of corny.

Soundtrack, part 1

P.s. I just tried to "open" the file after clicking the link, and for some reason it didn't play the whole track then. Maybe you should try downloading it and then playing, that seems to work at least.

P.s.s. Well, now it seems to work, I don't know what that was...

If I was breaking out of prison, that's exactly the music I would want to hear in my head. I enjoyed it very much. I especially like the slow, atmospheric build up you gave it. The first section reminded me somewhat of Vangelis (The Bounty). The second part was very exciting. Nice work.

    Petri,

You're multifaceted, man! Interesting. I liked the bit that starts about 2:20; but, like you said, it stops where it should be taking off. Pretty cool, though!

I would say the drums seem a little too busy for the brass at points. The brass are hitting on the one and three and the drums seem to strike on the two and four. It might be more powerful if there were some more percussive sync.

    Nice idea though!

M - Yea, I like trying out different styles, keeps your mind fresh :) I was quite happy with the guitarish sound at the 2:20, some heavy effecting with it there.

awfulfalafel - Hi, Tony! The drums are sort of double tempo compared to other instruments. I was after some sort of a breakbeat comp. Anyway, the drums use loads of effects there, all kinds of modulation and heavy delays, so it does sound a bit messy. It's also that they aren't mixed at all, for example the hats are way too loud... Well, maybe I'll get back to this track some time to fix it a bit.

Man, this one is great. I sure would like to hear the whole thing. But I can imagine that something like this would bring my computer to it's knees....

Petri, this is cool, I like it.
So, what's the issue, all the softsynths are capsizing you DAW? Have you tried using lighter simpler instrumentation to get the framework down and / or bouncing to track to free up the load?

You should keep at this one, as noted, it's just getting cooking at the 2:20 point.

jwnicholson - Hi, Jeff! Thanks for the comments. Yea, it does need kind of lot computing power...

ed_mcg - The main problem is probably in my careless style of using plugins and effects. I have multiple instances of softsynths open, which itself is drawing almost all the power from my computer, mainly RAM and also CPU. But on top of that I have loads of effects on every channel, which is literally killing the computer up.

I guess I should do some bouncing with this, but I hate the idea, because I'm still with Sonar 3 which doesn't have a proper 'freeze' function, so getting back to editing the tracks after bouncing is so slow and hard... In other words, I'm lazy :)

Anyway, thanks for the encouragement, I guess I'll continue with this now when I have little more time.
