Nice stuff there Jimmy. This woulda been really smoking with bass & drums. You need to check out Jamstix for drums.... www.rayzoon.com get the free demo & check it out.... add some bass or collab the bass... this is smooth.

Nice tone on the guitars......what kind of mic are you using on the mesa?

wonderfully done, i got lots of feeling coming through in your playing, also agree with herb(GUITARHACKER) some bass and drums would do this tune proud, i`d gladly add the drums for you if you PM me and send me a copy of the track, i use DRUMCORE2.5 and ADDICTIVE DRUMS. I`m pretty sure herb(GUITARHACKER) could do a bass track for this if you asked him too.

HERB Thanks for so many things in this case the kind words and info. I'll check that out. I ran direct. no mike used. I used a mesa
boogie Quad preamp. allthough I have a few fender guitars the guitar
used here is a cheap ol tele copy (or at least started out that way)

It had a neck the size of a football bat. but had large frets. I took a
wood rasp to the neck and cut it down to the thickness of about an inch.
smoothed and beveled the sides and frets.

Put in a mddle pickup and five way switch. Locking tuners seem to
effect the sound too ( more solid?) Strat style headstock means more
    mass at the neck also.

Its been a while sense i recorded it (actuasly years) But i think i
used my 3 pickup fender tele for the chords and this one for lead.

I'd say my mesa/boogie aint even been turned on in a year. Herb
I see around this site that you have quite a good reputation.
After checking out your stuff I see why! And when you said you want
to here some of mine i got motivated to start posting.

I've got soanr 8 and should get "with the times" useing something
    like jamstix like you say.

Allthoug the methode i use for drums now is very hard and a
lot of work i still prefer it. every little part of the drums is on a
seperate track again a lot of work but easy to edit.

I go so far as sometimes even puting the kick on two tracks and
change the parts that fall on the 1/8th beat. I've done that with
    high hat too.

Through the years I've worked on and tweaked my drums samples
to the point where i actually depend on them. Bass? I've been using
my own sampled bass too. But i got my 72 p bass out of the closet
and layed down a bass track for "egavary" sounded very nice. He
    aint hearded it yet.

So I might start using it again don't know yet?
Again Herb I thank you so very much for our comunication. maybe
I'll now come out of the closet and show what I'm made of.

    Thanks man jimmy

    Alkie

You've got a good ear man. that emotion and expression is what I
was trying to achieve. You dont know how much it means to me to
hear you say that! Maybe you can achieve what i havent as far as
    drume go

If it did have drums and bass i think it would have to be like
virtuoso jazz player kind of stuff Like jeff becks blow by blow
album man those guys Well I don't have words to describe it!

It might end up staying like it is, I just don't know I treid adding
drums and bass but didn't like it. Maybe a few reasons why.

Stevie Ray had a tune similar to this years ago with just two
guitars and it even got airplay. Very good for a world of ears
that want to hear drums and bass.

Also without the drums and bass you can hear every little
nuence of the guitars. BUT maybe everyone is gonna say it
needs (drums and bass) so what does a person do?

With an ear like yours saying it needs it I guess I'll have to
give it see what I'm gonna do about it. I'm new to calaberting
and such so maybe I'll see if i can get you some tracks and
see what you do with it.

Thank you your thoughts are valuable to me

Very pretty and emotional tune. Nice tone on those guitars! The chorus fx sounds just right on this. I like this as is. It carries well on it's own merit. Now, where's my lighter??

    Jimmy,

I used to create drum tracks by a similar method. Still one note at a time, clicked into a staff view. Way to difficult and time consuming. Jamstix solved all that heavy lifting for me.

You mentioned that you like to have each drum in a seperate track....well guess what.... Jamstix is capable of doing that for you, automatically. I think... up to eight different drum tracks. I have not used that function...I output to one track. For me drums are important ..to sound good, and provide the beat & drive and feel to a song, but I don't obsess over them. Usually I spend about 30 minutes to an hour max...on the drums, editing and customizing. Editing in JS is Soooooooo easy.

I'd recommend downloading the demo and play with it. Understand that the demo version may not allow the multi outputs..(I don't know) and there are a few other features missing from the demo, but it is functional to the point that you can use it like a "real" version and see how easy it is to work with, use, and edit.

BTW: the direct Boogie sounds really good. That's why I asked what type of mic you used.... I'm thinking about buying a new mic...better than the SM58 I currently use.... something like a Rode NT2A..... but I'm still checkin things out.

I like recording direct with no mike. Makes me have to get it right
with verbs delay eq comp and such. but everyone gets great sounds
    using different methodes.

I was told one famus singer hammered the lyrics on the wall with
a 57 and then sung the recording with it. Go figure?
Oh my I'd love to own a rode nt1.

of all my mikes i reach for the studio projects C1

Wow! What a gorgeous sound right off the bat.....love the rthym guitar...and the solo really is reminiscant of Beck...I really like this just the way it is, don't really miss drums or bass...it has a more intimate feel this way, and all the great rthym guitrar nuances come thru really nice.

    Very nice.

I too would like to hear some tasty drums and bass with this. Some well placed and very much in the background strings could add to this as well.

Yes, this is very beautiful and full of emotion and very well played.

The first time someone told me my piano stuff needed bass I was like 'huh?' but I totally agree now. Drums too. This would be beautiful fully produced, but it's very very nice the way it is.

Hey Jimmy! Good to hear you picking up the instruments and making some songs! I like the feel of this tune. The lead tone is fantastic man! It's so clear and hits the right frequencies and everything. How did you mic that and what are your settings? :)

You could get away with adding some warmer tones to the rhythm guitars, as when you play higher on the fret board, the frequencies somewhat clash with the lead.

I like the build ups in the leads. It really moves the song forward. Good stuff man!

My Latest Give it a listen and rate it please!

Wow I've had more than one post ask what mike I used?

Its a german made telefunken 3000 dollar tube mike. No just kidding!

Its a mesa boogie preamp ran direct into the interface to
the computor. No amp or mixer or mike just direct.

I set the preamp up so that it had just a touch of ovedrive
actualy it was clean on a soft note as I struck the note harder
it would go into overdrive. then if i just hammered a note it'd
go into a more "singing sound"

Guitar volume was set full on and left there. no compression.
I used a thumb pick which of course is hard and thick so when
I'd hammer a note it would send a strong signal to the preamp.

Pickups might have helped too maybe they distorted. dont know.
but i can say this the pickups are cheap ol single coils. you
know? so cheap they dont even have magnets as pole peices

the kind where the magnet is a bar under the pickup

    Thanks for the kind words

Sweet chops, very natural vibe, why can't you be the guy playing loudly next to me at guiatr stores? LOL.

A very expressive piece, nice tones and a great feel...it does stand up on its own but would be better shorter if you are not adding anything else to it.

Don't put that Mesa away ever again you'll soon be in demand round here for sure, just keep 'em coming.
