If you haven't solved this yet, make sure you also power on the keyboard using the little switch next to the USB cable. I have an A800-Pro which I assume works the same as the 300. When plugged in to USB and powered up the LCD display and other lights will light up. If that's not happening the cable might be bad or keyboard itself is defective.
Also try different USB ports on the computer in case one of those is incompatible or defective.
