A500 pads not responsive

I tried doing several searches but didn't find anything.

Just got a new A500 Pro and got it all setup.  The pads for finger drumming are really unresponsive.  I've tried most of the sensitivity settings for keys/pads, but they don't fix the problem.  If I hit a pad several times in a row it just misses hits.  Also it jumps from very low velocity to full velocity with virtually nothing in between.   When I play the same drum on the keyboard it keeps up no problem and full range of velocity is there.  Is there something I'm missing or possibly just a defective set of pads?

The pads on the A800 Pro are pretty responsive, I'd say you have a defective board.

Thanks Shambler!  I worked with tech support from the place I bought it, and they transfered me to Roland tech support.  Both concluded the same.  I'm going to swap it out for another one.  The knobs, sliders and keys work great and I'm really enjoying using it.

Hmmm.  Got the new one, and the pads are the same.  Bummer.  It would be completely impossible to tap out a drum rhythm with this thing.  I don't get it.  I've gone through all the velocity curve settings.  None make it any better.  The really weird thing is, the pad backlight always lights, but evidently that doesn't mean it's sending midi data.  Any suggestions??

Could you have made them too sensitive?

Can you get to a store and try one out there?

I don't think it's a matter of too sensitive.  None of the velocity curves work any better or worse.  Tap 4 times, and the light comes on 4 times, but you get 1 or maybe 2 drum hits.

I wish I had somewhere near by to try one in a store.  Nearest GC is 70 miles from here.  I guess I'll have to go on a road trip.

You must have had a bad unit, I've been playing around with my A300 Pro, Sonar X1a and Superior Drummer 2 with great results.  I haven't played around with the sensitivity at all and I get plenty of dynamic result.

This could be a latency issue - i've found that if latency is set too high or too low, you can get into trouble.
    Just a suggestion.
