I had bought Strum Electric in a no brainer sale way back but did not like it all that much. I was not going to do this upgrade but in a moment of weakness i paid out my $29. I am pleasently suprised! Its a big improvment over the earlier version. It still exhibits a bit of "brittleness" that I associate with physical modeling. It wont be a first goto but I will certainly be using both the acoustic and electric versions along side my Orange Tree, Indiginus and Music Lab guitar libraries.

Brittleness... good characterization. but it is very nice. I am quite amazed the modeling has become this good. I put GS-1 away a long time ago but will update... love the midi for songbuilding

Is anyone using GS-2 then? I updated today because I'm experimenting using Strum "power chords" routed through Guitar Rig. Which work okay, I guess, though not as good as the real thing... For some reason, the Speed, in the Strumming section, doesn't appear to be altering the speed of the strum at all. I might post a query on their forum...

Fleer But do you like it as a whole?
Well, I've had the earlier versions of Strum for a while now, but never really got to grips with it. It's only in the last week or so now that I've dragged Strum out again to give it another try and learn more about how to get a reasonable sound, which is more down to technique than the physical sounds that Strum produces. One of the main reasons I updated was because if you set the earlier version of Strum to Power Chord mode, it crashed Sonar, and I wanted to see how that mode worked. It's still too early to answer that question as I've not explored it that much. I upgraded yesterday morning and within an hour of that my eldest son paid us a visit (fathers day) so I had to get off my laptop really. Then later on, I spent some time making sure I wasn't missing something, with respect to the Speed "issue." I've yet to delve into the many numerous patches that are now available... I had a quick flick through the patch list and there's plenty there to play with, for sure. The interface is somewhat changed, similar to what they did with Ultra Analog. So I also need to learn my way around the interface again. But so far, so good. I like the ability to select different pick shapes. I'm not sure you could do that in the earlier version... At least, I never found that. I play my real guitar without a plectrum, so I've had a quick mess with the pick shape that emulates that. I've e-mailed AAS about the Speed problem, so I'll keep peeps posted on that one. And I'm hoping it's not just me. I went onto their forums and I'm afraid that nothing much goes on over there.

I've just received this reply from AAS:- It's now indeed subtle. The range of the strumming speed has been reduced in Strum GS-2. The reason behind that change is to have a more consistent behaviour while playing the loops. If you want to do slow strums you can do them with the arpeggio keys. So the software is operating as intended, it seem. I'm not to sure what to make of that...

A good question, and I'm not sure... I may have deleted it as spam Not to worry, I've done it now, and while I was at it I also upgraded my String Studio VSTi, at the same price.

First impressions: sweet-a-pa-teet indeed. For those in doubt: there's a tasty video or two from AAS showing both the acoustic and electric side of Strum GS-2. As for pricing, their site is showing $149/$29/$49 now ( https://www.applied-acoustics.com/strum-gs-2).

I watched the videos and, what ever presets they're using, both sound "plastic". The acoustic sounds like a Classical and the Electric sounds like a "Classical Electric". They don't sound like steel strings to me. Granted that might be the preset they are using...but it didn't sound "real" to me... which was what the problem was with the GS-1...

Yeah, I guess that it is difficult to model a true steel string sound and I've not explored much of the latest Strum to hear if things have improve. Which sound a bit daft of me. But the main reason I have opted for AAS Strum over sample libraries, is I try to stay away from sampler stuff. The only sample players I do use is Battery and BFDeco, but I also use Drumaxx, which uses physical modelling, like the AAS products. If I do have to eat my words with regards to using samples, it will only be because I'm creating my own guitar samples... Also, and I might have mentioned this earlier, I am usually putting Strum through either GR5, TH2 or something like Saturn, so I'm not too bothered about the Strum sounds not coming across as "real." That Hummingbird sounds the woofs nuts, but I'm still saying "no."
