A/B testing software
I am trying to find that program that randomly switches two audio files for the purposes of blind A/B testing. I know about Audio Diff Maker and I have got that one. I am sure there was another program that blind switched between two audio files and you are meant to detect the change and it scores for you etc. I had it but just cannot remember what it was called and where it is in my system. Does anyone remember what it was called and what the link might be. Thanks in advance.

Foobar is good but the ABX component just doesn't let me swing the results in the way I'd like them to go... :D

Thanks guys appreciate it. I have downloaded Foobar with the ABX add on and it all seems to be working. I was just wondering if there was a program that switched randomly for you without you having to do it as such. But once I got into how Foobar works I can see it would be useful too.

I have a program called WinABX that does just what you want, although it only handles wave files. However, it's a very old program and I do not know where to get it. I think you'll find Foobar to be an excellent addition to your toolkit, though. I use it on a daily basis, primarily for editing MP3 metadata and occasionally to repair MP3 headers or just to examine the properties of MP3 files.

Hi Jeff The one I use is called Magic AB and it is by sample magic. In case my link doesn't appear, go to sample magic's website at http: // www . samplemagic .com / details / 184 / magic-ab (I did it like this in case hyperlinks don't appear)
is this what you mean?

I use Foobar for objective testing but I also play around with Reaktor for making subjective comparisons. Unfortunately the requirements for making valid objective tests are not as simple as one might think, and I never got around to addressing this in my Reaktor ensembles. mike_mccue Foobar 2000 has an ABX comparator Component that I have used to humble myself on many occasions.
The word "humble" seems to imply that you might have misjudged your abilities going in for one reason or another...
In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

The word "seems" may apply here. For example; One may aspire to climb a hill, yet find one cannot reach its peak, without ever having presumed that one could. Recognizing a limitation is not necessarily contingent upon over estimation. Best regards, mike

Thanks goodseed. That is not what I was talking about although that program does make it handy to be able to compare reference material to your own mixing and mastering projcets. I don't need it though as I have lots of inputs on my digital mixer and can bring incoming sources in easily and also control and match their levels and switch to those sources fast. The Foobar concept is what I am after. I wanted to be able to compare very similar sounding things and not know which one I was necessarily listening to and try to work out which it was. As Mike says it can be quite humbling, I agree. Especially when doing things like comparing the sound of two different DAW's. Sometimes it is easy to assume that one sounds SO different to the other but once you get into the Foobar thing it changes big time and you find yourself listening to (very) identical things trying to ponder which is which. People who swear they can hear massive differences in things would fail miserably under certain test conditions. I have seen it many times.
