AC-7 Wireless DAW controller

Anyone been able to get this working with Sonar?

Edit:  and by the way I'm not connect with this product in any way.  It's just something I've been wanting to be able to do for a while.  Now if I could just run this on one of those new iPads...

Here's a video of someone using it with Reaper:

I actually got this to work with Sonar!  There is a lot of tweaking to do to get a controller defined, but setup wasn't hard at all.  Now I'm learning to define all the functions of a control surface (my first time).

    Cool!

How's it been going with this app?  Did you manage to set it up to your liking?

Would I be right in thinking that you need to use this app over a wireless network?  I ask because my DAW is offline when I'm using it.  Would there be another way for me to set it up?

I am also very curious how you got this working. I wasn't able to do so up to now. The connection seems fine with the additional midi internal and wifi tools, sonar is receiving the midi, but when defining a Mackie control unit in sonar there is no connection made with the ipad/ac-7 it seems.

My apologies - I've been away from this for quite a while.  There were updates to AC-7 since I had my initial success and I have not tried anything more since my original post back in January!

I will give this another shot over the next couple of days.  I haven't had much time for this sort of thing lately.

I didn't really get that far back in January.  I was able to just begin getting a couple of sliders in AC-7 to control sliders in Sonar 7.  I didn't define the entire interface to the point where everything was working smoothly for several tracks, etc.  I'm new to using any sort of external control surface and I was just scratching the "surface" in learning how to define everything.

Yes, you would need a wireless network to use this.  You could probably set up your network so your DAW is on the local network, but not on the internet.

    My question is....

Why would you want to use a wireless controller? Seems to me the latency would be overwhelming..... like I move a fader and hear it behind my moves slightly.  LCS (Level Control Systems) had this problem using hardwired CAT 5 until they changed the way the controller/receiver communicated...

I can't imagine using an IPad with one finger move at a time(Delayed control too) to mix a DAW. We use this type of thing to setup and tune audio systems but we don't mix anything like that (although some might, the technology for wireless control of Yamaha, DIGICO, Tascam/etc digital consoles through a laptop or touch panel pads (Earlier simplified versions of the IPAD) has been around for a while.... However I have never seen anything on a pro level controlled this way).

Interesting though... I guess it has its place... Hitting play on a session you want to show a buddy or something, sure, why not.  I am waiting for the "Wireless Automobile Tap" so I can playback my DAW from my car and have it play through the car system.... this would save so many discs and trips from one system to another(Home/Studio/Car/IPod/etc)

    Anyway

    Good luck with it

To be honest I would like to use this solely for it's transport controls.

When I'm recording I'm usually a few feet from my wired keyboard so instead of buying a dedicated control surface and having an extra wire around my already crammed recording area, or even buying Tranzport, which I believe is discontinued  now and very rare on the second-hand market here in the UK, I wanted to utilise my iPhone and pay a couple of quid to greatly enhance my workflow.
This would be great for me personally, but at the moment I don't have hours spare to set this up properly so I was hoping for some feedback from someone who had used it successfully with Sonar.

If the latency is anywhere near what the videos show I can live with that, like I say, I only need transport buttons.

That's pretty much all I would use it for as well.  And if I'm sitting behind my electronic drum kit and I think the guitar solo is too loud or whatever, I could turn it down.  I wouldn't mix an album with this thing.  I really don't think latency is that bad (it's been a while though).

I could definitely see the transport functions being helpful.... especially in your situation(s) where you are playing and cannot access the keyboard/etc.

I got it doing basis functions now (transport, jog and faders/mute) but not much more and definitely no feedback back to the ipad (eg updated timecounter). Seems that setting it as an VS-700 helped which I read on some forum.

I never could get the server software running on my pc to recognize my setup.w the iphone
now that I have an IPAD i can see the larger real estate working. But since I  already have
a Tranzport with 0 latency  so the AC7 for transport control is MEH

I purchased a usb numeric keypad on sale at the store one day. This was a short while after I purchased my Cakewalk software. As I was learning Cakewalk, I discovered the flexibility of programming these keys for transport functions.

Simply put,  I use the up to play, down to record ( or Punch in), left and right to move to markers, Home to go to beginning, End to the end, Pg up and Pg down to move by measures, etc .... It's cheap and effective. I know that there are others here that are using this method as well.  Can be used in combination with other transports and surfaces as well.

Hey everyone, big update for Sonar and AC-7.

Been speaking with Saitara's excellent support, Colin that is, and he informs me

"In a few weeks, I'll have a new version ready with full Sonar support including track names etc."
"There will be no need for DSMidiwifi or a Loopback driver... Just one small helper app (for XP, Vista, Win7 32 or 64bit)."

Great news as what I had working of this app was brilliant.  Delay was barely noticeable so perfect for my purposes.
