ACT Learn problems
Hello at all, i realy don't how to get on. I got two versions of sonar. One LE 8.5 and one X2 studio. In the LE version, ACT learn works perfect. I move for example 8 rotary knobs in psynthII. After i rotate r1-r8 on my A300pro. Sonar tells me that i had touched 8 parameters and 8 control elements and ask me that i want to use the assignation. I accept the assignation and everything works fine. The value of the new parameters can be set with the apro. Same think with X2 studio doesn't works. First thing i found strange is when i move for example 8 parameters and 8 rotarys on my controller, X2 tells me that i had move 16 parameters and 8 control elements. Why 16? More often i assign parameters, more confuse things happen. At last assignment doesn't works perfect and i must restart to assign parameters. What's going wrong? Anybody got a answer? Do i must make some specisl settings in X2 studio? Best, Tomas

Granted I haven't had great success with ACT, but this is curious. What operating system are you using, Vista, 7 or 8, x86 or 64bit; and are you using X2 32bit or 64bit? I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Man i'm driving crazy here. ACT learn absolutely doesn't work. How it works for you? do you got alike problems? My setup is: Notebook=msi A6400, Intel Core i2310, DDRIII 4GB Operating system=WIN7 Home edition 64bit DAW=SonarX2 Studio Midikeyboard controller=Cakewalk A300Pro Settings in Sonar Midi settings: Midi in=A-PRO midi in, A-PRO midi 1, A-PRO midi in 2 Midi out=A-Pro, A-Pro midi out Controller surface settings: Controller surface=A-Pro-1, Entryport=A-Pro 2, Outputport=A-Pro, ACT and WAI are enabled Controller surface=Act Midicontroller-1, Entryport=A-Pro 2, Outputport=A-Pro ACT and WAI are enabled Settings on my Keyboard Midimerge=Disabled PS: And what is with the massage? So when i move 8 parameters in a synth and 8 rotarys on my controller, X2 tells me that i had moved 16 parameters and 8 control elements. Are the 16 parameters right? Sorry man my englisch is not very good. It is enough for have some fun in a Bar or somewhere but for technical conversation, i can't go so deep. Best, Tomas

Hi, why did you add "Act Midi Controller" in the Control Surfaces page? If you're using just A-300Pro as your control surface, you only need to add "A-PRO 1." Other than that, your settings are absolutely OK.

It doesn't matter wich surface i chose. In both happens the same. Can it be that this is a bug? because in 8.5"Le" it works perfect without any problems on the same notebook. No one in this Forum got a solution or can give me a tip in the right direction to solve it? Best, Tomas

I found something like that happening recently, I was trying to automate some controls in a 32-bit plugin (so using bit bridge) that didn't have the usual right-click midi learn functionality (aside: is that due to bit bridge or the plugin?) Anyway, when I was doing the ACT learn for 3x parameters, I noticed that when I moved the controllers on my keyboard that I was trying to assign, some switches on the plugin were moving i.e. they were already assigned. So I ended up with 'moved 6 parameters and 3 controls'. However, once I accepted this, I ended up with 3 controls and 3 parameters as I'd wanted. Have you tried accepting and seeing what happens? Are you still controlling 16 parameters with 8 controllers, or are you getting the one-to-one association that you want? Have you noticed controls on the plugin moving when you're doing the ACT learn? i.e. ones that you're not trying to assign/learn, but which might already be associated? [edit] p.s. what is psynthII by the way? The only psynth I know of is an iPhone app (?)

Hi there, when there is no way to use ACT Learn with DX Instrumens like psynthII or nPulse is there a way to have them as VSTi's?

Don't think so, it's a completely different interface technology. One use's Steinberg's VST and the other Microsoft's DirectX.

If ACT doesn't work properly with DXi (I haven't checked it yet) I'd use the Remote Control feature.

Jlien X Can't find the ACT Learn button on my TTS-1...
There wasn't one on the bit-bridged 32-bit effect I mention above, but the global ACT learn button (in the toolbar) still worked OK. Have you tried that to see if it works?

Don't confuse the 32bit VST issue with DXi. To access the ACT learn button on a BitBridged VST, hold the SHIFT key when opening the plug-in UI. The VST header with the ACT learn button will open in a second window usually behind the plug-in UI.

So, how about the 64-bit TTS-1 which I'm checking now? I tried the global ACT Learn button but it didn't work.

Or Cyclone or that Roland GrooveSynth. I don't have Project 5 installed on this machine but would not be surprised if the P5 synths lacked ACT support.

Another addition to the list of things I didn't know :-) Does that show the other 'missing' buttons too, like solo, mute, read/write enable etc? Cheers!

Yes, it does and a button to bring up the plug-in UI. The header is also dockable.

I thing it is very confused. Any plugs working great with ACT learn, others don't work with it. To use this comfortable feature, i will rewired project5 and edit these synths there. Thanks for your attention. P.s.: I had read in the doc of sonar that there is a possibillity to create own ACT maps and save them as .XML files. Is there anywhere a tutorial of how to do that? I had not found it at cakewalks website. Best regards, Tomas
