AD Licence Question
Upgrading to Sonar X3 bought me an Addictive Drums license. Cool, but I already have one, and cannot think of any reason to have two. My question is: am I free to do whatever I please with it ( sell or give away ), or is it somehow connected to my Sonar purchase?

I think it becomes officially personal the moment you register it. That would mean you could sell it. It may not be entirely in line with the intent of the deal though.

CW informed me that the AAS Session instruments were NFR and implied the same about XLN. But maybe they were just making a demand they can't really enforce considering it technically isn't theirs to make demands about? Maybe better to ask XLN (& AAS).

Unless there's some code that ties it to SONAR. I doubt they had included one you can give away or sell, but of course...you never know.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

I have no way of confirming, but I suspect the sonar one may not be transferable. If the one you have is transferable, perhaps transfer that one instead. i can't imagine it would be too hard to tie certain serial numbers to Sonar users.

Same question - have a current license and certainly don't have use for two. Of course I have two registrations of Rapture and Dimension. But those are pretty clearly 'mine' as Cakewalk does not allow transfer.

That's the thing, before you register it it's not a transfer, you just give/sell someone the serial and they register it, at which point it becomes theirs. AD may have some internal note saying it was purchased with Sonar and can't be transferred afterwards (though I seriously doubt it), but they don't actually check for a Sonar registration when you register it. EDIT: again though, probably not entirely in line with the intent of the deal.

Yeah, I have this same question up on XLN's board, same u/n as this one, not getting much intrest, though, which is kinda strange, seeing as you normally get very quick answers from actual XLN staff over there. Wasn't gonna sell, but maybe give it away here.

XLN support has always been very responsive, in my experience. I doubt that they would want a bunch of second hand licenses flooding the market, but they appear to be a fair and equitable company. I don't think there are any transfer fees to sell your retail version though, so you probably could sell that one off and load the SONAR license to eliminate the duplication. Personally, I owned and sold AD before and then regretted it...so I was very happy to get it again bundled with Producer. I have SSD4 Platinum and EZD with some EZX packs, and AD is a perfect compliment, in my opinion.

I'm only a little annoyed, kinda wanted to reply " No. YOU contact the support whatever and get a straight answer to a simple question that many people who paid you for your product must be asking." Man, that would have been sweet. I would have really told him off. I guess I could go back there and post that, but it is sooooo faaaaarrrrrr.

This just in from XLN Audio. You should hold on to the Addictive Drums product key that came with your copy SONAR X3 Producer, even if you already own a registered copy. Contact support@xlnaudio.com and let them know that you already have Addictive Drums. XLN Audio is happy to hook you up with other instruments (including Addictive Keys) or a pair of ADPaks.

Yeah, I got bored and jumped throught the the support hoop, and they got back to tell me about that. I guess I will trade it in, but it might have been fun to give it away on this or some other forum, rock radio style " the first poster in who can answer the following question wins this great drum plug-in".

When they got back to me, they were very thorough and attentive, even responded to my anti-online-only-distibrution-scheme rant like it was actually read. To show my appreiciation, I bought a few of what they call MIDIpaks, and to my absolute delight, they accept "vanilla" mastercards as payment. I personally would buy ALOT more little toys from Cakewalk's website if this were possible.

What's a "vanilla" mastercard? I have a credit card from my bank in The Netherlands that says "mastercard" and it has always worked fine anywhere they said I could use Mastercard, including Cakewalk?

It's like a prepaid anonamys mickey mouse mastercard. I love to use them online but lots of sites don't want to take them for some reason. Some do, some dont. You can buy them at the corner gas station 24/7.

That^^^^ is just like the one I had when I sneaked in to Seattle from Vancouver in 92! Except I was told mine was an"official" Mastercard-the "gas station" ones didn't exist then. Bob-still on X2-due to hackers, scammers, maybe I don't need X3???
