?? AFFORDABLE sample-playback virtual instruments?

Hi.
I'm looking for an affordable sample-playback VST or DXi instrument.

First, is the SoundFont format "professional" enough to go with? I don't know if it's limited in some ways compared to other formats/systems... Can anyone point me to SoundFont editors and (plug-in) playback software?

I do have Reaktor 5, and I know it can do sample playback, but, I'm not well-versed enough to build an instrument for that. I do know that it can import Akai SD stuff. Anyone know where I might pick up an already-built sample instrument for Reaktor 5?

Any other suggestions?
