AIR instruments problems
Hello I have Platinum and the AIR instruments vsti doesn't work fine. The problem is when I play my keyboard the sound takes a few seconds (lag). This problem don't occur in Sonar X3 or Reaper. Any suggestions?

Try adjusting your audio buffer with its ASIO driver.

I don't this it is a driver issue. The delay is several seconds between the note on and the synth responding. The problem only occurs with release J. Prior releases of SONAR and the X series do not have the problem.

As I said is only in Platinum, in Sonar X3 and Reaper, works fine. I adjusted buffer, I reinstalled the Vsti, but it doesn't work fine. The plugins are Vacuum Pro, Loom and Velvet.

I'm seeing this in JP too. If I start an empty project (no tracks) add Vacuum Pro and then using the mouse (so no MIDI latency) click on one of the piano keys on the soft synth, I can then count to 5 before I hear the beep. It's not a driver/sound card/windows/ASIO issue. Something changed in JP. (additional info) If I then arm the audio track for record and play something (midi or live) the latency goes away and things again begin to play in sync. Having the audio track armed for record seems to change the behavior.

Try toggling the PDC button to see if that helps.

This sounds like what I saw when I upgraded to Jamaica plain. I found that when I enabled a patch point, I was getting a massive delay with Midi to AIR plugs (Velvet in my case) - in a number of tests, the delay was 13 seconds from playing a note to hearing the plug in play. Reverted to Ipswitch & everything is fine again. Chuck

PDC doesn't seem to make any difference. The only thing that stops this massive latency is arming the audio track the synth is routed to. Don't even have to start recording or playback, just the arming of the track is enough. But having VacuumPro feed into an audio track that isn't armed for record results in a giant delay. This was working fine on Ipswitch. Other AIR synths have similar problems (Loom , Velvet, Transfuser 2, Structure ) but not Hybrid or Strike . I believe AIR has free trial versions now available, so it shouldn't be hard for Cakewalk to try this themselves. Not doing anything special. Insert VacuumPro synth, press key on synth's virtual piano.

I don't think it's a Delay compensation issue - it seems to only be with air instruments ( in my limited tests) CHuck

"Having the audio track armed for record the latency goes away" thanks msorrels. I hope that Cakewalk in the next update fix this bug.

Cakewalk will blame the AIR instruments and ignore the problem.

I have the same problem, except Hybrid is fine. I installed the other synths from a pack. I already had Hybrid, but installed Vacuum Pro and Loom later. Don't have any problems in Reaper, so this is likely a Cakewalk issue.

Ipswitch doesn't have this problem, it is new. Something to do with changes in Jamaica Plain. I also don't have any problems with Hybrid or Strike either only Loom, Velvet, Transfuser 2, and Structure.

I Have the same problem with Loom on Platinum (Jamaica Plain) On previous versions I also had problems with Loom in combination with Slate Digital and Eiosis Air Eq plugins, where the VU-meter needle (in VMR) and the Spectrum Analyzer in Air Eq would dissapear.

Have any of you with AIR-loss (sorry, couldn't resist :-)) problems reported to Cakewalk via the problem reporter?

Waste of time. The only chance is these forum posts are noticed and someone at Cakewalk follows up. The problem reporter is the problem.

Surely it's worth a try - as I'm sure we know, this forum is not formally monitored by Cakewalk staff, so if anything is spotted, it's happenstance (and there are a lot of threads created and added to on a daily basis, so it's a lot to monitor).

I'm using an older version of Loom (v1.0.xx) and haven't run into this problem in JP. Is anyone else here also using an older version, or are your versions newer?

I've only used the last two versions (1.0.6 and 1.0.1), both have this problem. Both versions were after they switched the licensing and gave out new serial numbers.

Ah, I am on the older version and license type (different number of characters). I don't know why it would affect latency of all things, but I wonder if it's related to the VST authorization changes in JP.

I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the license or authorization. I only mentioned that because it was the only "user visible" change from AIR to tell the two versions apart. When I first noticed the problem I hadn't updated to the 1.0.6 version so I thought I'd try that to fix it, which is why I've seen the last two versions under JP. I'm not sure I can even go back to pre-iLok version now. Seems likely it has something to do with all the audio routing changes (since arming the track for record makes the problem go away/masks the problem). But unless someone from Cakewalk downloads the VacuumPro demo and looks at it and figures out if it's Cakewalk or AIR's problem I suspect we are going to just have to live with it. Cakewalk support won't even tell me how Sonar fills out the Insert Synth menu on the Synth panel (so I can figure out why it's broken for me), a question I've asked them multiple times (they have just stopped replying, they must consider the issue ignorable). I have no hope of them looking at a 3rd party VST plugin they casually broke with JP. Any submitted ticket would just start with the blame Windows OS/Drivers/Hardware nonsense instead of actually trying it. Cakewalk has designed their entire support system and this forum so that they can avoid actually having to fix anything. It's engineered in.

I got my Air Instrument Expansion Pack, and, at least with Velvet, there is a definite delay once a track is record-enabled. This is not a recent regression: I have observed the same behavior with Sonar X1.

FWIW, I've had intermittent success avoiding the issue by running Velvet inside DDMF's Metaplugin Synth. Obviously, this is a pathetic workaround, and CW needs to fix this. No problems like this in Cubase.

You couldn't record a synth until Ipswich, so I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing. The track I'm saying needs to be armed is the synth's audio output track. Which until Ipswich wouldn't actually record the synth's output.

I've posted this issue under weird timing issue and many other have confirmed this lag on several synths...even Zeta is doing this. Others have had this issue with Machine. I have Hybrid and XPander2 and I think Hybrid also lags. I also have VST scanning issue in JP...hangs on a Wave VST - bass rider mono for some bizarre reason. I've contacted Tech Support but I don't have the time to go through further problem-solving. I installed/un-installed JP around 6 times now trying different things and each time I go back to Ipswich, both issues do not occur, so I'm staying with it for the moment and hope Cake can sort it.

playback is fine & in time. It just seems to be when you are playing live. I had a track with heaps of Air plugs and it plays fine but when I try to add a track, that is where I came unstuck. I am back on Ipswitch & running fine; there are too many bugs in JP including huge CPU & thread issues Chuck

The delay issue is fixed for the next update. And as far as performance goes the JP issues were very specific and a workaround was available. However we have made major performance improvements in the next update in many areas. Probably the fastest version to date.

I have the same problem on sonar x1(d) Major latency using air instruments (in my case with Velvet, and micro piano) I can´t record anything on it. Also, it´s not a latency issue, all other plugins work fina, and in sonar platinum i donta have this problem , only on sonra x1 Any suggestions?
