AKAI PRO MPK MINI
Hi, I was hoping someone could help me. I just purchased an Akai Pro MPK Mini to use for midi drums, etc. Finally got MC5 to recognize it as a usb audio device but it will not let me select it for midi input/output. It appears in the midi devices and I can check it but on closing it says that no midi input/outputs have been selected and it is not checked when you return to midi devices. I really don't know what to do at this point, help please. Thanks. I am running MC5 on Windows XP M-audio Delta 2496 Akai Pro MPK mini usb controller

something's not right. the Akai Pro MPK Mini is just a MIDI controller, not an audio device at all - there are no soundcard drivers for it. when you installed it, did you follow the instructions for installation that came with it? and did windows install it OK?

I initially was using MME but I now have it set up for WDM. Yes, the instructions said that when plugged in it would be recognized as a "usb audio device" and to select that when choosing the device. I did have an initial problem that it didn't recognize it but I found somewhere that said my Logitech web cam was probably causing a problem so I got rid of that and now it is recognized.

the instructions told you it would be listed as a "USB AUDIO DEVICE?" I'm not understanding (or you're not giving me enough info one). can you send me a link to the exact model of MPK you have? or a link to the manual? looking on AKAI's website there's no "PRO" model listed, only MPKMINI MPK25 MPK49 MPK61 MPK88 these are all MIDI controllers only, no soundcard/audio device is in them. they have no A/D or D/A converters, therefore they have no audio device drivers therefore MME or WDM doesn't apply to them at all. so I need to know exactly what you have and look at the specs on it before I can help you.

yeah, there's no audio device there. windows *might* be calling it a USB AUDIO DEVICE, but it should be calling it a "USB DEVICE" (not AUDIO). when you say you see it in the OPTIONS>MIDI DEVICES but whne you check it then "exit" it says you haven't chosen any inputs or outputs. first, did you check the USB DEVICE as both INPUT and OUTPUT? did you click APPLY?

Beagle, It is up and running, completely by accident but I won't argue with the results. I put a flash drive in to copy a file and when I stopped and ejected it I immediately got a "found new hardware" message and was able to finally select the "usb audio device" as my midi in/out. I was drumming in a couple of minutes. Thanks to you and Greg for trying to help me with this. Drew
