***ALTERING KEY in X2 PRODUCER?***

Hi Folks! I have a question for you all. When I was recording to tape, if a vocal part was a little too
low, I would speed the machine up a 1/2 step or a whole step, record the
vocal,---then bring the machine back to normal speed. Or if I wanted the vocal
to sound more female, I would do the opposite,---record it down at a slower
speed, then speed it back up. Is there a way to duplicate this effect digitally? Pitch Transposing an octave doesn't seem to work very well. Any ideas appreciated greatly!

There are several ways to do this, here's one option.
 

1. Do a premix of your song (bounce to track). Mute tracks other than the premix.
2. Use Process > Transpose to transpose the premix up or down a semitone or whatever. (Remember to bounce the clip to itself to invoke the high-resolution algorithm, but you can always sing along with preview mode if you want to save some time.)
3. Sing along with the transposed song.
4. Use process > Transpose to transpose the vocal back to where it should be.
5. Erase the premix unless you expect to do more parts.

If you have the Editor version of Melodyne, you can use the Formant tool and not have to deal with transposing. V-Vocal also has a formant tool.
