AMD Athlon64 4000+ or INTEL Pentium Dual Core E5200

Hi all,
after several years with a laptop I'd like to buy a small Desktop PC to run Sonar 8 PE.
I have to choose between these two configurations, which are identical except for the processor/motherboard.
Can anyone suggest me which one would be more indicated for Sonar 8 PE, considering I am mostly using external hardware rather than plug-ins and VSTi, but with a SSL Duende Classic Firewire DSP card?

AMD Athlon64 4000+

or

INTEL Pentium Dual Core E5200 2.0GHz

Both PCs have 3 GB RAM (I'll be still using XP) Hard Disk 750 GB (7200 rpm 32Mb cache SerialATA II) and
GeForce 9400GT/1GB DDR2

Thanks!

    I'd go with the intel..

I own an amd x2.. thats the cpu? and well I'm not overly impressed with the performance with many programs.. it should be out performing my intel laptop and isn't.

have you looked at the benchmarks?

but even sometimes it's not about that.. most companies optimize their code for Intel a LOT.. that's general and not every company.

the next CPU I buy will be intel as a result.. I'd like to think I was objective as I was more a fan of AMD chips till recently.

The AMD 64(soket 939) is outdated and not very upgradeable at this point. For AMD I'd go with Phenom 2 or wait for Phenom 3, or go Intel.

Scott the thing is , most of the sample based things I use.. well probably are more tested on Intel..

Joke is the benchmark song for reason... won't play on my laptop.. which I kinda expect.. BUT still don't play on the dual core AMD I have... they basically over load at the same spot..

if you go to developers, bet they are all run intel rigs and only just doing testing on AMD's or compatibility fixes.

What do you need to run?

At this point in technology. 64 bit computability on the pluggin side is totally sketchy. Sonar is great...but those (almost ready) 64 bit compliant pluggins AINT READY yet. I tried it trust me.

Intel core 2 duo is the way I went. Haven't had one problem yet.

Unless you are trying to run 49 tracks of audio or 62 pluggins......you would be totally fine with core 2 duo. NOT DUAL CORE......but core 2 duo. There is a huge difference.
