AMD quad core 9600 or Intel Q6600?

I'm building a new system.

I already have an Acer quad core Q6600, but am looking at a new rig with a Gigabyte motherboard, more ram, bigger PS, PCIe video card, XP home (as oppesed to Vista), etc. I can buy the AMD Phenom 9600 black edition quad core (unlocked multiplier) for about $15 less than the Intel chip. All things considered, I can build either system for around $800.

Which way should I go? I'm looking for very low latency, as I rely on soft synths for all midi. Thanks for your input.

    HI,

if you are not overclocking and you are mostly a samples guy then the AMD Phenon 9950 would be a good choice.

the Quad intel you want is the Q9300 or 9450 overclocked to 1600 FSB NOT some podunk 1066 fsb.. or at least overclock the Q6600 to 1333 fsb

    Thanks Scott for that info.

Originally I was wondering if the AMD quad core would perform better than Intel's, as its architecture seems more efficient than going through a FSB. I just came across this review which clearly shows that the Q6600 outperforms AMD's 9600 quad core. http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=10427

So now that I've eliminated the AMD chip, I think I'll go with the Q9300 as you've suggested, and it 'll only cost me about $75 more. I'm looking at the GA-EP35-DS3L Gigabyte board, which supports a 1600 FSB. I'll have to figure out how I can overclock to a 1600 FSB, as I've never had a system that I could overclock before; but that's the main reason why I've decided to build my own system this time around. Again, thanks for your help.
