AMplitube

There is one day left on the Sampletank Group Buy. I would be interested because of Amplitube. What is the feeling about this? I just bought a Line 6 Pro XT for $675. I might like to have all the IK synths if Amplitube is competitive (I know it's not going to be as good overall.) What about the latency issue?

Dude, Amplitube is king (in my book). Unless you are using your POD to play live, I'd just sell it. hahaha :) Latency? Not an issue if you have a fast enough computer/interface setup. I don't even notice the latency and I've been playing for 21 years now. The nice part about amplitube is that you can make setting changes all the way till the final mix. You don't like how it sounds right before you cut it? Then change it. Less gain, more gain, re-eq, add delay/reverb/parametric EQ/auto wah.. whatever... whereas, if you have the POD, you're only able to go back and change the eq on the track. I know you didn't ask for this much info/opinion, but I can't help it. :) Amplitube is just killer.

I recently bought the SampleTank / Amplitube combo, and although I already had a GuitarPort, I now use Amplitube almost exclusively. The sound is more realistic and has less "digital fizz" than the Line6 (although a PodXT Pro is probably better in that respect). What's really killer, though is the ability to easily reamp, as fightingzero mentioned. It's only been a few weeks, but it's hard for me to recall what recording guitars was like before Amplitube!

I would hold off for a little while Version 2 of Amplitube is due out any time now and the improvements look worth the wait.

Did you get in on the buy? I did, and I can't wait to get this stuff - especially Amplitube. 6Strings here on the forum was really disapointed with Guitar Rig, but I've heard nothing but good things about Amplitube.

Now I just gotta figure out my latency issue so I can play all those amps in real-time...

Is it just my computer or do these software guitar processors sound god awful compared to units like the podxt pro or even my 7 year old digitech rp2000?

I have tried most of the better amp simulators, including the ones that comes with UAD-1 and Powercore. Generally I get good clean sounds (read Fender Blackface), but anything with overdrive usuallly sounds awful. If, however, I add my Fulldrive 2 before the clean amp emulator, I get a useful sound.

I also have an old J-Station which is at least as good as the software based emulators. Advantage: I use it while recording so that latency/computer resources is no problem. I record the clean guitar signal, but monitor through the J-Station to get an approximate sound. This way I can always reamp in software, hardware or even both.

I actually preferred Guitar Rig over Amplitube ver 1.0

I got really good sounds out of it. The CPU utilization was god awful, but the tones were great. hmmm.

I got Amplitube for free when I bought Sampletank. Dint think I would use since I'm not a guitar player. Just for the hell of it I ran my vocal mic through it and all I can say is WOW!!!!

You guys with Sonik Synth 2. Try loading the May Fuzz Wah preset under electric guitars then put Amplitube in the FX Bin and go to the VIP presets in Amplitube and choose one of the 2 Brian presets. Or the Carlos one. Then turn the legato on the May Fuzz Wah preset and turn the porttamento knob to about 10 o'clock....To me that's a kick ass guitar lead.

Nomad Rock Amp legends is an amp sim with tone that totally destroys amplitube and ni guitar rig.

i think it uses impulses (the technology from impulse based reverbs)

its tone totally blows away any other amp plugin!

Okay, that is probably exagerating... My guitar playing buddy has all of the above mentioned plugins, along with a large array of vintage amps/heads/cabs in his studio, I've messed around with the plugins enough to realize they are all pretty good. All of them, each for a different purpose. I especially like Guitar Rig, (he likes his 1970 Orange head through a Bassman cab), but he also likes Amplitube when playing really loud isn't an option.
Go for it, you'll be amazed.
If you've got a halfway decent computer, latency won't be an issue.

Unless your recording with it (Guitar Rig). It is hard to get more than 2 instances without having to bounce. it is CPU intensive!!

Dudes, in my experience, each different guitar (tele or strat or les paul etc) requires a different approach as does tracking different styles/tones. For example, i get the best clean strat tone from my pod, whereas the pod sucks for my teles - they have to be mic'd and played thru pedals and amps. I don't beleive there's a one fits all solution.

I heart amplitube. It's my secret weapon on vocals, but I use it on lots of things. Bass, it's great. I even played in a guitar line on bass, transposed it up in Sonar, threw amplitube on it and it sounds like a twangy Telecaster.

Plus, there's a ginormous amount of presets out on the net to dial in specific sounds. I approve.

I had a POD XT, and sold it for a Vox Tonelab SE.
The Vox just sounded more real to me . . . .

Thanks for the inputs guys. I missed the bundle sale. However, they had an Amplitube/Sampletank special that I got for under $250. Even though money is not that much of an object, I couldn't resist getting an amp sim and Sampletank for that low a price as compared to the $650 I paid for the XT, which I haven't even taken out of the box yet. I hope Amplitube does distortion good, because I like heavy distortion. One thing I thought of was to get the Line 6 "Uber Metal" pedal for distortion and adding it to the Amplitube if I couldn't get enough of a screaming sound from the Amplitube.
