[ANSWERED] Platinum Performance: Anyone getting MORE using processor video v.s a card?
!!edit; hoping a title change will be less confusing and get better response. (BUMP, if you will) Question's pre-stated; any thoughts, pro or con, greatly appreciated. (I'm interested in finding out if using the core for video will deprecate Platinum's performance ) Thanks, Mel Also, other than a glitch I keep getting from the console emulator graphic coming up greyed and empty, it has been running great. Any thoughts on this would also be appreciated.

Title still confusing. I'm guessing it has to do with onboard graphics versus dedicated graphics card. Beyond that, I don't know what you're asking.

If you're talking about NOT using a gfx card versus using one, I can't imagine that not having a card take care of gfx duties wouldn't not result in a performance boost. Or maybe I worded that confusingly...

You would see more performance boost from installing a SSD drive than using a dedicated video card over a onboard video card.. Sonar just isn't that graphic intense..

I run two i7 laptops: one uses dedicated graphics and the other does not. The difference when running Sonar seems to be negligible. More system ram made a much bigger improvement.

I believe the only potential impact(s) of using on board graphics is that it shares system RAM, and that the on board graphics generate heat. The on board graphics are independent of the main instruction set. So there may be marginally less memory when using the onchip graphics, and the overclocking headroom may not be as high.

Do you have the latest graphics driver? Don't rely on Windows for this. Go to AMD's site and grab the latest drivers for the HD 6450 Core Edition.

Thank you all for your replies and sorry I was not more clear; yes, I was referring to on-board versus card graphics related to sonar performance. I am already using most of your suggestions and an SSD drive for my O.S. I was hoping maybe I could squeeze a bit more out of my rig as I am beginning to get clients who require 32bit 96k recordings. Thanks again all, Mel
