[ANSWERED] UAD-2 problems with X3 Studio
I opened a project that has Guitar Rig 5 between some UAD-2 plug-ins. A warning pops up that says there will be a latency on that track. There certainly is a delay. The other problem is the plug-ins don't sound the same as in X2. I tried resetting and rescanning the vst folders. Any ideas? X2 has no latency on that same track. I haven't tried creating a new project to see if the plug-ins sound different.

What happens if you delete guitar rig? is the latency still there? X2 has issues with waves plugs in between uad-2 plugs...

I changed to ASIO drivers and there is no noticeable latency anymore. I'm using two delays, the Cooper Time Cube and the EP-34 Tape echo. The tape echo is only working on the left channel. I converted the file to mono with same results. Strange. Anytime I make a change to one of the plug-ins that warning pops up. That is beginning to annoy me. Guess I'll finish the song in X2. I haven't put any waves between uad so I never ran across that problem in X2.

Are you to date with UAD? I'm having a problem that I'll see later tonight if updating to the latest solves the problem

I'm getting a similar message upon project load. And it sounds like the UAD plugins are bypassed and there is no activity on the plugin GUI. Sonar does not indicate that the plugs are disabled. If I then randomly load a new UAD plugin, I get the message about a non UAD plugin between UAD plugs and potential latency, BUT, the UAD plugs start working. I seem to remember this behavior between SONAR and UAD before

Whenever I got that message in X2a it was true becuase eventually I'd find something like: Slate VCC UAD LA-2A Fabfilter Pro L

Same problems here too .. Iv'e been using UAD 2 plugins for about three months on Sonar X2a and never got that latency message ever . And the plugins had no noticeable latency , Even mixed between other brand plugs with no problems . In X3 I did a lot of plugin manager tweaks and Aud ini. file changes with no luck ....I had two different Recording sessions today and did them on X2a .....Everything was fine. I really want to use X3 , its great other than the UAD issue. I'm going to tweak some more things tonight. I will report any good results.

Same issue here with X2a and UA plugins.
As long as each FX bin has contiguous UA plugins, there is no issue.
I think it's the UA plugin manager. It gets confused when you sandwich other plugins inbetween its plugins.
Maybe it has to do with reporting latencies to the DAW?
... it's a mystery at this point...

It seems to only happen in the buss section and not the track section . If I manually bypass the plugin and press the button on each UAD plugin again it goes back in sync . If I hit E or global bypass and re enable them , Some of the UAD plugins won't work at all until I manually hit that little round blue button on the left side of the plugin. That would take to long every time you open up a large project. But at least I can sync the UAD stuff back up and use. X2a has not given me any problems ,,,so It might be a setting somewhere on X3 or VST3 side effects.

What version of UAD are you running?
This was happening with sonar x2 and an update of UAD to version 6.5 finally fixed it.
If you use a lot UAD plugs then this can get really annoying, I even had it when exporting or bouncing tracks that had no UAD plugs. The message would come up for every instance in the project regardless.

So sad that this message has popped back up with x3, i'll have to wait then for it to get resolved until i can try out the new car.
Last time I contacted UAD and Cakewalk about this and the issue then was on the UAD side. I had to wait for the new 6.5 release that fixed the issue.

That message is coming from the UAD plugins and not from SONAR. SONAR uses a custom UAD plugin chaining API to let the plugins optimize streaming on the DSP bus when there are side by side UAD plugins in the bin. The driver is warning you that there will be plugin latency when you insert another plugin that is not a UAD plugin. If that message appears in SONAR X3 and not X2 that it is likely that the UA plugins are checking for a specific SONAR version and silencing that message. Since X3 is a new version the message is unmasked. You will have to contact UA for a resolution to the message issue if it bothers you. There is an independent issue with using UAD plugins alongside other VST3 plugins in the bin. That will be fixed in the next update.

Hello Noel, Thank you for verifying the UAD / VST 3 issue, do you have a timeline on when the patch will be issued? I rely on UAD and Waves plugins, but I suppose I can use X2 for the time being.

There's a setting in Preferences that prevents Sonar from replacing VST2 plugs with their VST3 counterparts. Use this until the update and you won't have to go back to X2.

I live in a dream world, where UA monitors this thread and will resolve this issue without my sending out user concerns about my plugin not plugging in right with X3. Then I can lay back, have a drink with an umbrella in it, and know that all is good in the universe. They also don't officially test their plug-ins with Sonar, so I'm happy that it works with X2, I smile, and I'll get back to writing music. Just a little frustrated, but I'll get over that.

The main problem with using UAD plugins alongside VST3 plugins has been fixed in X3B. After reading this thread its not clear to me what the remaining issue is. From SONAR's side there have been no changes in how UAD plugins themselves are handled. Also UAD plugins themselves are not VST3 so as such its all being handled very similarly to X2. Regarding the message, that is a warning that is displayed from the plugin itself telling you that if you sandwich non UAD plugins in a UAD plugin chain you will incur latency. The plugin knows this because of SONAR's support for the UAD chaining API. As I said earlier any such message can be suppressed only from the plugin so the fix needs to come from UA. Unless we disable the integration completely which would result in less efficient streaming. So what is the remaining issue besides this? Latency is expected if you sandwich other plugins between UAD plugins. Thats how their design works and you will see exactly the same behavior in any version of SONAR.

Hi, Noel. The issue I reported was the message popping up about about the plugin chain and the resulting latency. I quoted your original post in this thread and they responded that they'd fix it soon.

Cool thanks for the update. I think the resulting latency is expected though AFIK. The message they may be able to fix. Can you please ask whoever you spoke to to get in touch with me? I want to make sure that they are not testing for the application name since it will vary across SONAR versions.

There are several issues with UAD-2 and X3. I'm having a problem where not all plugins are activated upon opening a saved project though X3 is showing they are powered on. Another issue is when dragging UAD plugins into the FX bin they are not always activated. Another issue is when powering on/off the plugins, they do not always activate again.
