ANY experience with AKAI MP8 as a midi trigger for plug-ins?

Maybe I expected too much from this little baby but triggering samples should not be rocket science.

In the standalone configuration of Battery 4, there is no issue, I can trigger the drums with the MPX8. Running under Sonar I can not find any configuration that works...ideas?

Hi. Have you checked it as a MIDI controller in SONAR (Preferences, MIDI)?
Make sure you have the MIDI input set to MP8 and output to whichever synth you want to trigger.
    All the best.
