ASIO driver and Sonar audio input questions
I would appreciate suggestions for two problems that I have. Problem 1: I bought a USB Guitar Link to connect a guitar into Sonar X1 Producer. The Guitar Link came with a BEHRINGER USB AUDIO Driver Win32 2.8.40. However, my computer is a Win 7 64bit and the driver wouldn't install. The supplier doesn't have a 64bit driver. Is there any way AIO4ALL can be configured to work with the Guitar Link or is there any other ASIO driver available in the public domain that can do it? Problem 2: When I plug in the Guitar Link without the ASIO driver, Windows configured it as an Audio codec and I can hear the guitar through the computer's speakers with a lag. In Sonar, I inserted an audio track and the MME Stereo Audio Codec can be seen as one of the options for the input so I selected it but the guitar audio is not received by Sonar. I tried various other input options but all failed. Any suggestions on this problem?

If your interface does not have proper drivers for your system you should consider getting one that does. Drivers are one of the most important parts of making them work properly.

And that wasn't meant as snark. If you just bought it return it to the store and get one with proper drivers. Fiddling with all that silliness is gonna be a headache... and likely result in lackluster results if you do actually manage to get it working. Frankly I'm surprised Behringer wouldn't have the correct driver.

DaveQ - I'm second Beepster on that. There are good and affordable options that do work. Seems like you're swimming upstream unnecessarily.
Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

I'm assuming what he bought was one of those dongle dealymabobs so I think you can get those for like $20-30 and it sounds like some of them will do the job in a pinch. Really though for $150 you can get an actual interface. Much better.

uninstall any kind of driver that came with your interface. download and install asio for all. in preferences select asio4 all and also your behringer. it will work permitting one thing.if you plug in the berhinger and its installing a windows driver. if this is the case you need to go in to the regesry and find the windows driver it supplying the interfacebecause if not there is going to be a conflict everytme you plug it in. just return the behringer? remeber the soundcard is the second most important thing your using..your computer is the first..so how does that stack up on the list of importantables? very high hu? i know money is an issue ra,ra,ra..you spent 400 bucks on software,500+ on a computer and now your squashing the numbers on an audio interface looking to use asio4all? pffff. do the right thing. a prosonus saphire 6 usb is 64 bit cap. and its under or at 200 bucks american. its got xlr- 1/4- and midi. the cakewalk ua-g1 is around 100 and still better then what you got. welcome to the forum by the way.. come on dave !! good luck hommie

+1 to all the above. You MUST have a 64-bit driver to use that device in Windows 7. ASIO4ALL is not a hardware driver so that will not resolve your problem. I went to the Behringer site and they have a 64-bit driver for the Guitar link here: http://www.behringer.com/fr/Products/UCG102.aspx

the only cravat about the saphire 6, which I found out down the line.. is the "instrument in" on the front are mono NOT stereo... so you can't plug a stereo midi unit into it (you have to use both connectors) Dave you have unticked the other onboard card etc your using in sonar's pref's ? MME you can get away with to an extent *IF* your playback device is decent enough, but I wouldn't use it all the time.. only when recording parts from an instrument etc. http://www.behringer.com/fr/Products/UCG102.aspx shows there is a 64 bit driver for it.. so unplug, install that.. then reboot with the unit plugged in . there is an asio4all driver also... but I'm guessing it's a config error and the thing works ok.. but maybe not straight forward to setup, unless you have patience remember in asio4all untick your onboard soundcard as well you might find that improves matters greatly.

Fog the only cravat about the saphire 6, which I found out down the line.. is the "instrument in" on the front are mono NOT stereo... so you can't plug a stereo midi unit into it (you have to use both connectors) Every audio interface on the market that I am aware of uses mono instrument connections. You should always expect to have to plug into 2 channels on an interface when recording a stereo source. Also regarding ASIO4ALL, keep in mind that it is not a true ASIO driver. It basically acts as an in between from your computer to the audio interface's WDM driver. This means you get the latency reported by ASIO4ALL in addition to the latency caused by the audio interface's WDM driver. A useful tool when you NEED to use ASIO with a device that does not have ASIO drivers, but not an ideal solution by any means.

well it's one of them "combi" type connectors , so that limits my inputs to 1 really, which if I had known at the time , I'd not have bought ;-) . I did ask in the shop at the time, so thats why I wasn't overly impressed.

Depends if you want stereo to be recorded Paul, or whether mono will do. If it is stereo you want then yeah, you can only record 1 stereo instrument at a time, but if you can get by with mono, you'll need a special lead made up (or make one yourself)

Dave, you simply need a different (and better) audio interface, Behringer has not updated a bunch of interfaces for x64 and they are not likely to at this point... I had to toss the very handy and good sounding FCA202 firewire interface as a result. Checkout focusrite scarlett 2i2 @$150 or for more flexibility there are several 4in/4out>6in/6out at around $250 (focusrite, NI, Roland)

Daveny5 gave the op the correct answer- there are 64 bit ASIO drivers on the web site, the op never even checked there. It would seem that some of these companies that have been dishing out crappy driver support might just be finally getting on board.
