ASIO?

OK, I'm confused. I'm just getting started on HS6XL with the Toneport KB37 keyboard as my soundcard. I keep hearing everyone say that I should download an asio driver and use that. But I have enabled Line6 KB37 as my driver. Is it better to use an asio driver? What's the difference?

Thanks for your help.

You can use what ever driver type is available for the BK37, they should have both WDM and ASIO for it. Try them both and see what gives you the best performance and lowest latency. Most sound cards work best with ASIO but not all, some work better with WDM. Some things to remember are that with ASIO you can only have one audio I/O driver so you can't use another sound card and the BK37 at the same time, with WDM you can have more then one. Also, to adjust the latnecy with WDM you use the slider in HS6XL, with the ASIO driver you have to use the control panel for the driver and set the buffers, samples, latency... what ever they call it in there.

The KB37 is now your soundcard. It uses ASIO drivers. Options >Audio>General: select ASIO. Once you get it up and running, I'll be curious about how you like the KB37. I've considered it for a midi controller, but I already have a Toneport for guitar, so it might be superfluous.

    mcouter,

I have only used the KB37 a couple of times, but I can already tell you that if you're looking for just a controller, you're probably better off with something like m-audio oxygen 8. The KB37 doesn't really feel as solid as it should. The build of it is kinda lightweight and hollow, almost like they stuck a bunch of features on a $50 Casio. The keys are semi-weighted but they feel kinda "plasticy."

The unit as a whole is great for me because it is an all-in-one deal (keys, guitar, bass, mics), but since you already have Toneport for guitar (and probably a decent setup that you use for recording the other inputs) you may want go with something that is less expensive and feels better.

However, if you want everything in one compact unit, it's great. And I really don't care about the keys feeling great (they're not that bad).

For the price tag, it's a good deal for all the features, but just buying it for use as a controller would be a mistake.

Would WDM or ASIO be better for me to use with the KB37? Do you know?

You would just have to try both to find out.

Go with the ASIO drivers for the Toneport and recording with Sonar, IMO
