AT 4040

Hi all,
This is likely a dumb question, but looking at my mic, I have two white switches, one is pad, and the other is the cut off or something like this, I have it on cut the low, and the vocals seem nice and crisp... is this the best option for vocals, and what about the pad option, when would I use these, and where should they be set for guitar, vocal, other instruments, etc? Thanks, I am not sure I have a manual that tells me, I knew someone here would know this elementary Q! :)
Thanks.
Kevin

What ever sounds good to you. The pad is an attenuation switch to reduce the mic's output so as not to overload the signal and create distortion.

I always put a high pass filter on vocals, but with an eq inside sonar as my mis dont have a cutoff filter. The reason you like the vocal sound is because your low pass filter is getting rid of a bunch of bass and lower mid runble that you dont need, so your ears are not deceiving you.

I would rather record with all frequencies(no low pass, and then eq lows "in the box' with an eq inside sonar, but yes low cut/high pass filter(those two descriptions essentially mean the same thing) is a good thing for vocals in general
