AUDIO INTERFACE

Greetings.  Looking to buy a new audio interface and came across what appears to be a good deal on a Cakewalk V-Studio 100 for $400.00 through Sweetwater.  I wanted to check with you guys and see what your thoughts on this unit were and if you had any other suggestions that I might should look into before making a decision.  The V-Studio 100 caught my attention because it fit my budget, is portable and works well with X1 for mixing etc. and it got some pretty solid reviews.  Really would like to buy the V-Studio 700, but the wife said that I couldnt afford that and the new place that I would have to relocate to. ;-p

Thanks in advance for your time

The VS 100 is a solid unit.  The fader sets it a part, at the price level.  As long as you are doing mostly stereo input/output it is fine (yea, I know it has more i/os, but only 2 preamps, 1/4 inchers, etc.).

While not up to botique preamps/converters, you are not going to miss too much - it can do a pro job.  And it seems to work well w/ SONAR, tho I only had a review unit back w/ SONAR 7/8.  The card recording is a bonus, the onboard effects ... OK.

I don't know what they sell for new these days but it seems like a good deal for $400 - interface, controller and computerless recording.

Thanks for your input.  I had looked around for quite some time and this did appear to be the best bang for my buck.  I am more interested in the DAW controller aspect more than the recording portability, but having this portability could prove beneficial for the band.  Since this was designed by Cakewalk I can be confident that setup with Sonar will be quick and painless - unlike some of the other units I have read about.  Thanks again for taking the time to respond to my post.  I really appreciate it.
