Access Virus TI Crashes Sonar 8.5 - FIXED by Sonar 8.5.2!
Any other Virus TI users out there using it with Sonar 8.5? Every time I try to open a project containing my Virus TI or insert it into a project (even a blank project) it causes Sonar to crash. I'm on the latest official Virus OS 3.10 and Vista 32.

Access had tested 3.1 with Sonar 8.5 before Sonar was on general release. I had a problem (my fault) with the 3.1 update and Access suport said they were using 8.5 on their test Sonar system.

Actually, I should have mentioned that, when I first tried my Virus/VC with Sonar 8.5 yesterday, I was on 3.03. When it crashed repeatedly, I updated the OS to 3.10, but it still continues to crash. I haven't been able to open a single project file containing an instance of the Virus or insert it into a project without it crashing.

They really shouldn't have named that product "Virus".

soundsubs Sonar 8.5.1 with Virus TI (polar) v 3.2.0.0.7 working fine here. I was considering trying that, but public betas can be hit/miss. But, it's good to know that it doesn't appear to be an incompatibility issue b/t the TI and Sonar 8.5, so I guess I'll just need to ID the problem (sounds easy 'nuff, right?!).

maybe force Sonar to rescan the Virus TI vst? Maybe uninstall TI and re-install? ive had incredibly good luck with my TI, some people havent been so lucky.

I did have Sonar re-scan it several times, both with the 3.03 and 3.10 OS's. I've also had very good luck with my TI and I'm guessing that this is something that I'm overlooking. I'm going to take a closer look at my VC plugin settings this evening after work and see if I can't find the problem. If not, I may just try the full uninstall/reinstall.

you know what? one time (no idea why) when i upgraded i just hit "yes yes yes yes yes yes yes" blindly and it installed a SNOW instead of a TI Polar. after i unistalled (and deleted the newly blank reg entry for TI and in CW Plugin Mgr too) i installed it carefully and it was fine. ps. yes, i still use the 1/4" outputs

No, it's not the Snow - I delete that .dll as soon as it gets installed. As I mentioned above, it was working perfectly until Sonar 8.5 was installed, without me altering anything having to do with the Virus. Then, I tried the OS3.10 and still have the same problem. Also, I just checked it and it works perfectly with Ableton and Cubase. Anyway, I uninstalled/reinstalled and am still getting crashes. Here's the message I'm getting: Exception code: c0000005 Address: 00C499CF:0012EE10:0012ECD0 It's creating a dump file as well.

OK, a little more experimenting and I've narrowed down the problem to something associated with using the TI/Virus Control in multitimbral mode. Trying to open a project that uses more than one of the TI's outputs (i.e., multitimbral) OR trying to insert an instance of Virus Control with "All Synth Audio Outputs" selected causes the crash on my system. However, if I choose "First Synth Audio Output" (i.e., mono-timbral) it opens, works, and saves just fine. Can anybody else try this and see if it works for you?

yep it crashes ok, i get the same fatal error message and then sonar vanishes ! i'm gona try adding one part at a time time to see if that affects anything it's rare for me to use the full 16 parts, i normally just use between four and eight midi channels running through one audio channel, i then solo each midi part and freeze the track and then ctrl click to copy the newly created audio to a new audio track, i then unfreeze the midi part and move on to the next midi part, freeze it and so on, until i have all the parts/clips etc i need for the project then the virus is either archived or removed from the project. so it's not gonna affect my workflow but it definately needs sorting!! do you think the new beta (3.207) is worth a look to see if that's any better?

just to add i can manually add up to 16 midi parts ang 16 audio tracks but i can play no more than 8 parts at any one time, tho i did use an arp midi sequence to test so that might have something to do with it, it doesn't touch my cpu.

Thanks for confirming that James! Yeah, I noticed that I can add tracks manually after-the-fact as well without crashes. I'm like you in that I rarely use more than 2 or 3 Virus tracks at a time, but the problem for me is that most of my projects were inserted using the method I described above, so they crash Sonar when I try to open them. I'm not sure if the new beta would fix it or not, since it seems to be only a problem with Sonar 8.5 (i.e., Live 8, and Cubase 5 still work fine for me, and Sonar 8 did before I upgraded).

soundsubs hmmm. not sure where to select "all synth audio outputs" to replicate? i can see usb outputs and analog outputs in VC Common page. You're looking in Virus Control, not Sonar's insert synth dialog box. Follow these steps with a blank project: - Insert > Soft Synth > Access Virus Control - at the insert soft synth dialog box, select the MIDI track and "All Audio Outputs: Stereo" Please let us know if it causes a crash. Thanks!

So, this was a bug that was confirmed by Cakewalk and fixed in the 8.5.2 update. I tried it out last night and it works perfectly again. Thanks Bakers!
