Acoustic Samples GD-6 Acoustic Guitar - Are all Guitar Libraries this good?
Hi i was just emailed re the Acoustic Samples GD-6 library - as a guitarist I've never used one of these Guitar Libraries, but on listening to this, have to admit (darn it!!) that to me it sounded pretty good. I now know what drummers must have been feeling all these years!!!!!! This works in the free UVi engine or MOTU Mach 5 - I have and use Mach 5 I expect that's why I got the email! http://acousticsamples.net/guitars/gd6 Anyway I was just wondering if anyone else had seen this and if ALL guitar Libraries are set up like this one and sound as good (or better / worse) than this. Cheers Nigel

Interesting - I honestly never realized there were so many realistic sounding Libraries out there - I remember seeing an old one years ago (Steinberg I think) and was very unimpressed, so ignored these newer one oblivious to the fact that they were getting better and better. Shall have to start to behave myself, turn up on time (preferably sober and without a hangover) and do takes in one go, no tantrums because the guitar won't stay in tune, or I can see myself being slowly phased out!!!! Damn technology...................... Nigel

Eddie TX There sure are a lot of convincing virtual acoustic guitars out there. Another is this: http://www.amplesound.net/en/pro-pd.asp?id=6 To save anyone making the same very time consuming mistake I made with this (very long and now useless download) be aware that the demo version will not work on DAW's that are not connected to the internet.

Thanks for the links Eddie. Looks like I dodged an expensive bullit on the 1st link, since my rig is kept offline. But I checked out the indiginus link and like some of his things there. I just picked up Kontakt 4.2.4 earlier this month.

Hmmm... I must say that just like the original poster I was totally unaware of the fact that there actually were guitar libraries that actually was usable. I as well had totally given up on that. I am a guitarist myself so I really wouldnt need sampled ones. But my current living situation makes recording guitars real hard. So it would be nice to just be able to at least flesh out some stuff using one of those with my laptop. Hmmm... Really seems like I need to buy Kontakt. Damn... Does Native Instrument usually have any summer sales? /M

NI have a summer sale in June/July. Komplete 9 was introduced late - April instead of September - so whether that has any bearing on the timing of their next (summer)sale we shall have to wait and see. I'd still expect a sale - who would buy at full price?

Yes, as much as I generally dislike NI as a company, I have to admit that Kontakt is a good investment. It will ultimately save you money in the long run, because you'll have access to all those inexpensive libraries that don't have to pay NI a fee in order to run on the free Kontakt player. Regarding the Indiginus acoustic guitar library: I have it; it's not bad at all and a genuine value. But there's a reason it's $40 and not $150-200 - it's simply more limited than the higher-end packages. Consider it only if acoustic guitar is not going to be prominently featured in your songs. If you can afford it, hold out for one of the higher-priced libraries such as OTS Evolution Acoustic, Vir2 Acoustic Legends, Elya Efimov, Ample Sound or RealGuitar (did I forget any?).

My favorite among those would be the OTS offering, which strikes a reasonable balance between price and features. Plus I just like the developer.

Eddie TX For those interested, here's a new song that shows off the Amplesound Taylor VST: http://soundcloud.com/ample-sound/agt-all-in-best Sounds like someone there knows what they're doing ... Cheers, Eddie
Have to admit I'm very impressed AGM....I have the AGML, which is free, and it's awesome... OTS, great stuff...The Acoustic Samples are also great... Surprisingly, if you're just using it in the background, Strum Acoustic can be used...it takes some effort, but it's included in X3...it's not great by any means, but it is usable if you're willing to work at...

Agree! I have a number of virtual guitars and Gregg, with OTS is fantastic, approachable, personally answers emails, is constantly innovating, based locally and samples are exquisite... He also does great sales from time to time... a practicing/playing musician with brains enough to have created a great set of guitars/basses... http://www.orangetreesamples.com/ I'm probably going to pick up the GD-6 to complement Orange Tree's evolution series... I like many of the pickings/strumming options and plant to get back into virtual guitars for upcoming climate/resiliance/transition music... my 64 year old fingers can't begin to do what these lovely's can do these days and they sound fantastic... BTW, the "indiginous" offerings are quite amazing for a super budget... they are another really cool company worthy of support...

sounds nice, cc... btw, just picked up the GD-6 (bummed I missed the illya sale!!!!) and it's very nice... no manual I can see but the vids help and very nice finger picken' options with which I whipped out a song idea in 15 minutes, including vocals (yes, it does vocals too!)... very nice sound and transitions; like the multiple strums/pickings and large raft one can assign and modulate... All of this after my initial wtf how do I use this friggin' thing moment...

we are sooooo lucky, aren't we? It's truly a testament to the power of today's toys... Actually, you can do oooodles using free stuff these days.... but my personal journey has left a lot sitting on the hard drive as I search for "me" tools (inspiring, easy, intuitive, outrageous, spontaneous, and delicious...the vst's I mean....) I've dabbled in lots of daws and really only the most recent X3 has clicked to the point where I can create something I really feel "does it" in a reasonable time. I'm basically a songwriter and now I can weave the fabric around the message in ways I never dreamed! ...I just bit on DM-307... my 13 year old daughter listened to some of the demos and just freaked! "Dad, you gotta get that!!!" and I looked into my phone/bank and it said well, if you must...I thought it was the first HoC product I'd skip but when their stuff is so rich...oh...and a real sale... and oh...K I told Ellie...and did it I have to admit, after spending an evening with DM and the GD-6 I had a song flushed out on the Florida floods that wouldn't have materialized if I hadn't bit on both... I diddled with RMX, AD, and a few others but within 15 minutes the DM did the deed and sounded way better (HoC is amazing) and I just deleted the others... so... I'm left wonderin... what's that $49 daw? know some kids that might wanna muk a bit!
