    My advice is don't install it until after the first service release comes out (in a few months probably)... Always issues...

     I only just purchased the 2015 5 license pack a couple of weeks ago, due in no small part to Doktor Alex's continual blather I mean mention and praise (and I mean that in a nice way )

    Does this one give you a warning if you inadvertently shut down your PC while the backup is running? Because I hard crashed my computer a couple of times with Acronis this way.

    I also just purchased 2015 three weeks ago.  I went to the link and saw their "free upgrade policy"; I found out that I was qualified for a free 2016 upgrade.  I downloaded last night and got a new serial number.  However, I may wait until the bugs are found out and fixed with a new release before installing.

    You must be on different service releases of 2012.

    That may be that you have the Acronis services running in the background.

    Try it.   2010 works for me in Windows 10.

    Trueimage 2015 and above is official supported with Win10. Personally I would not be happy using other versions, it may work but make sure you do a test restore.

    What will definitely work is booting off the recovery disk however, as windows is not used for this method (looks like Linux to me). If I didn't want to upgrade I'd be using that method for backups and restores.

    Best thing about the release of a new version is that soon afterwards, the old version pops up for sale a lot cheaper.
     
    Plenty of brand new copies of ATI 2015 all over the web starting around $35.  I was one who used a free utility, but have finally jumped on the Acronis bandwagon -- just ordered boxed ATI 2015 bundled with Disk Director 12 for $35 (free shipping).
     
    Additionally, once registered, it's eligible for a free upgrade to the new version!

    I had the 2012 version and just updated to 2016. I had found 2012 to be clunky but the new version seems to run smoother and the interface is better. Ran my first full system backup in about 30 minutes.

    I have been using ti 2015 for some time and never an issue with it. Works flawlessly. Just updated to ti 2016 and it seems fine also, tested it out with creating and restoring, cloning, all worked fine.

    Given the size of modern hard disks, backing up a drive to optical media wouldn't be practical. An external drive would be cheaper and faster.

    Yup external HDD or NAS are your best options.
