Acronis "restore to dissimilar hardware" worked GREAT!

I just used Acronis True Image 2011 Plus Pac to restore my C, E and F drives onto a new computer with a different OS and MOBO and Harddrives, etc.  It worked wonderfully!  My old AMD Phenom 955BE died and I decided to try the Intel platform with a Sandybridge 2600k.  Acronis did the task well and fairly quick.

The only problem I had was with the Acronis "boot" CD, which did not recognize the USB external drives which contained the Acronis backups.  So I just transferred the backup files from the External drive to a harddrive, then rebooted with the Acronis boot CD and pointed it to the location of the backups.  Granted, it was a little stressful at times, but it all worked well.  Oh yeah, a number of the software plugins (IK, NI and Spectrasonics) need to be re-activated, but that is no issue.

Thanks to all who recommended this program in the past.  To those that don't have it, take a look at it.  You never know when you will have a crash.

I have been using Acronis for several years.  It has never let me down.  I have Windows 7 that has a built in backup program but it's nothing compared to what all Acronis will do.

The Windows 7 program will backup partitons on the hard drive but they must be NTFS formatted partitions.  On many new PC's manufacturers have recovery partitions (in the case of Dell also a diagnostic partition) that are FAT32 formatted and the Windows 7 backup will not back these up and if the recovery partition becomes corrupted or the hard drive fails the user is "up the creek" as they don't provide discs with most new PC's.  Acronis will backup all partitions on a drive regardless of how the partitions are formatted.
