Addictive Drums 2 and the Upgrade to Platinum - need help getting set-up.

I've emailed customer support for XLN, but figured I'd post here too - I'm having a bit of trouble setting up AD2 after upgrading.

1.  I read on their website that current AD1 content would be upgraded.  I bought a MidiPak, but I don't know how to migrate it.
2.  We're supposed to get 3 ADpaks - how do we do that?  When I go to their website and add it to my cart, it tries to charge me.  When I click from the instrument - it brings me to the website.
3.  Can we migrate the drums that were bundled in AD1 over to AD2?  I was kind of bummed when I opened it up to see what it could do and all I could find was an incomplete demo of Fairfax.

I got the word document that said I'd need my registration number from the command center - never needed it, did I miss a step?

If you went through this process, let me know how you did it - I'm sure I'm missing something simple.

I had same problem as well at first. Make sure u download the online installer. After u do that open the application which it should automatically. Then u select register a product. Put in Ur AD2 serial number (case sensitive) then it'll register and further down it'll show adpaks u can select. U can PM me bout it if u have trouble. I'm not at my computer right now so I might have forgotten about a click somewhere in there. U don't do it from the website. It's all within the xln online installer.

Thanks.  I think it was the Case-sensitive part.  I just tried it from the web page and it did something different.  When I get back to my studio computer, I'll go into the installer - I'm sure that's what the problem was.  Thanks!

No problem. I think when I successfully registered it, it automatically took me to the page to select my adpaks.

Ok, so I figured out how to get my ADpaks but what about migrating my old stuff?  Like all the preset drum kits from AD1?  And the Funk'd Up Midipak that bought for AD1?

Any idea how to bring those over?

Sry no help there. I've always dealt with mostly vocal.mixing and made Instrumentals in other programs then brought them over to Sonar for mixing. I'm still fairly new at learning the instrument game in sonar.I'd assume it should transfer over. Will platinum read your AD1? U can prolly just run AD1 for the kits u want and use AD2. For its kits seperarely. I haven't used ad1

Yes, Platinum is recognizing both AD1 and AD2.  I just want to be able to use my kits from AD1 in AD2 because there are more features.  At the very least, transfer the beats...  I can do some work arounds, but it's a bummer when things don't work right...

It says on their website that it's supposed to do it, but I can't seem to figure it out...  We'll see if their email support will help.

AD1 won't migrate to AD2 unless you buy the upgrade. Things you bought and use in AD1 will be available in AD1 but not in AD2. The packs you choose from the Sonar will be AD2. It's a strange way of doing things but that's the deal. Buying the upgrade converts all AD1 stuff to AD2 but you still have it in AD1 also. Even the midi doesn't show up in the other one.

It's Bass, not Bass.

Yes, thanks.  For some reason I thought that I would get all of my stuff upgraded with the bundle.  Just for clarity - buying a bundle does NOT include an "upgrade".  (which was the part that I was missing...)

It's funny, they won't let me but another bundle without purchasing the upgrade - I'm hoping that's a computer glitch...

That's proabably just a glitch in the system.......any AD1 drums won't work in the AD2 engine........whatever bundles or adpaks you buy now will only work in AD2 and there's no way the online purchasing system would know if you have upgraded or not.

Of note, I was very impressed with the midi packs and how useful they can be. I got the Rock Songs, Blues, & Percussion Beats......very cool stuff to use with all their drums.

Yeah, I'm impressed with AD2 also...  I love the beat transformations too - you can really change the flavor of many beats.

The glitch is funny - try going onto their website and buying another AD2 ADpak - it takes you to the "order details" page but at the bottom, it says "add the AD2 upgrade to your cart to continue" and won't let you go any further.

Interestingly enough - I created a new account with a new email and it would have let me purchase it since I wasn't an existing AD1 owner...  (I didn't purchase and contacted them instead.)  Strange.

Do you by any chance know what country XLN is located in?  My bank blocked the purchase because it was overseas.

I would avoid using a different email/account (even if it let you) as the installer looks at the email address the account is attached to (at least mine does). So even if it did let you make a new email/account, you'll end up with having to use two installers and both will only have whatever is registered to each of those accounts.

Anyway, that chain of events does sound very strange......good thing you've contacted them....they're very good with customer service. I belive they're in Europe somewhere (not sure which country).
I've used Paypal to make my purchases and never had any issues.

I've been puzzling over this too, but actually I think it's not a glitch -- more like marketing.

If you try to buy any of the 3 Studio kits, you get steered over to buying an upgrade. That's because those kits are already in AD1 and buying the upgrade will migrate all 3 to AD2 (plus any other AD1 packs you may have).

If you try to buy a different AD2 pack (and you haven't upgraded AD1) it steers you to buy the upgrade plus 1 pack option. This should also get you the 3 Studio kits. But it looks like you could still buy the single pack as long as it's not something you already have in AD1.

So in a way it's more bang for the buck to upgrade and get the 3 studio kits. But I'm not sure I'm ready to spring for it at the moment.

Perhaps - it would be marketing if they encouraged you to buy the upgrade, but still allowed you to make your purchase without buying it...  The glitch is that they aren't letting me buy it, but it I was a new user, I would be able to...  You see?

I CAN'T just buy the bundle and get my two kits like I did when I upgraded to Platinum.

I'll probably do it, but I'm not ready to spring for it at the moment either - still waiting for a response.

Note: the upgrade includes some of the kits you can buy... xln will swap them out for you automatically if you end up doing this... per an email...from Nick Hutton, xln:

Thanks for getting in touch. Just so you know exactly what comes with an upgrade to AD2.
An upgrade to AD2 creates the following content to use in AD2.
Studio Rock ADpak
Studio Pop ADpak
Studio Prog ADpak

Bread'n'Butter Beats MIDIpak
Beats'n'Pieces MIDIpak
AD Legacy MIDIpak

Pearl Masterworks Piccolo Snare Kitpiece Pak

Plus all the ADpaks, MIDIpaks & Kitpiece Paks that you previously bought for AD1.

I didn't realize this and they swapped out my purchase of Studio Rock adpak for another... They are pretty cool

So it let you buy the ADpak - that's the problem I'm having.  I wanted to take advantage of the extended holiday sale (which ends today) and buy two additional ADpaks through one of the bundles.  I'll get the upgrade later, but I can't buy both right now and I really want the two ADpaks for a project I'm working on right now.  The problem I'm having is that the website won't let me purchase the bundle without the upgrade.  It's funny because if I tried logging out and creating a new account and it would let me (as long as I'm not a current AD1 owner).  As Mesh noted - I think it's a bad idea to do that...

I emailed them - they haven't gotten back yet.  People on this forum seem to think they are pretty good - I hope I have a similar experience.  We'll see what they do.  (They aren't very prompt...  But I guess quality is better than speed ;) )

Here's the response: "We have restricted people from buying ADpaks from us until they have purchased an upgrade from AD1 to AD2. We did this as we were concerned that customers buying a Bundle from us were selecting items that come with the Upgrade."

Seems a little bit odd to me that they wouldn't let someone purchase something...  Why not just have it written in bold "Hey, you know you get this automatically if you buy an upgrade!"

Oh well, I caved and bought the upgrade.  It was more money than I wanted to spend right now, but in the end I know it will be worth it, the price was still reasonable, and I really love AD2.

I agree.
They should've clearly stated what's included and what's not......instead of stopping you from purchasing. At least you got it sorted out and this post might be helpful for others

I too am really liking AD2 (more) and now wanting more & more Adpacks/midi packs.
