Addictive Drums Bundles Eliminated

Today, XLN announced they're abolishing the Producer and Solo bundles. The model has reverted to the AD1 system where the base model comes with a set of stock sets that's expandable by AD packs.

How does this affect Sonar? Does Sonar Platinum still come with 3 AD-packs of buyer's choosing?

I tried to buy additional packs last week. I was hit with an additional $80 upgrade to AD2 fee?
So I decided not to buy anything until I see what others are finding out here on the forum.
Here is XLN`s response to my email:

Don B.
"I have Sonar Platinum with AD2, I was trying to buy more add on packs, why do I
have to re-buy AD2 for $79.99 if I already have AD2? "

 XLN.
"Thanks for recently getting AD2 Producer Bundle which came with your new Sonar
Platinum. The Producer Bundle does not upgrade older AD1 content only the
upgrades we offer through the web shop can do that. The upgrade represents a
great deal of work on our behalf converting over all the AD1 content for use in
the new AD2 engine.

An upgrade to AD2 creates the following content to use in AD2.

Studio Rock ADpak
Studio Pop ADpak
Studio Prog ADpak

Bread'n'Butter Beats MIDIpak
Beats'n'Pieces MIDIpak
AD Legacy MIDIpak

Pearl Masterworks Piccolo Snare Kitpiece Pak

Plus all the ADpaks, MIDIpaks & Kitpiece Paks that you previously bought for
AD1.

We blocked customers that have AD1 stuff and have not bought the upgrade from
getting ADpaks for AD2 because we were concerned that they would go ahead and
purchase items that actually came with the upgrades. Thus they would be
potentially buying stuff twice.

Don't hesitate to get back to me if you need any further assistance.

Wishing you all the very best.

So it looks like they're honoring the bundles that came with Sonar, but if you want more ADPAKS, you have to own the master product (Addictive Drums 2). Before, you could just buy another SOLO or PRODUCER bundle and upgrade those, but looks like those are gone now (JRR still has them, but the prices are yucky).

I have X3 Producer and Sonar Platinum. I forget what Addictive Drums stuff comes with which version of Sonar, but I seem to have both AD1 and AD2 on my system, plus the basic kits and beats from AD1 as well as the three kits and various beats etc. that came with the XLN Producer/Sonar Platinum bundle, without ever buying anything directly from XLN. I can open and use AD1 and AD2, and all the beats are available to me.

I'm going to assume that XLN is not retroactively taking any of this functionality away, although it kind of looks that way from the quoted email. If anything like that happens, I will be quite a bit less addicted to their products.

Maybe I'm wrong here but I feel a little miffed since they advertised AD2 as coming with any adpaks. Now they are saying it is actually it's own program that I now have to buy.

Good product. Confusing setup. If you make it difficult for a customer to do business, you won't have a business for long.

Confusing info as well...

I just downloaded and installed my permitted 2nd copy of AD2 and my 3 adpaks over the last 3 nights... So at least prior to today they were still allowing the download....

It's a decent product, though I'm not thrilled with all of it, but he need to make decisions and stand by these or they will Lose customers as well as acquire fewer... There are alternatives...

I put their "could have been money" to good use.
I ordered 2 4Terabyte hard drives.
I liked their product, I`m baffeled why they wanna act like that to
those who are willing buy more packs. I guess I didin`t understand Platinum`s
standing with XLN on the whole AD2. But time will change things.
I`ll go back and visit XLN when offers get made for some deals.

The Black Velvet kit is one of my favorite goto kits.

What does that mean? If we have AD2 through Sonar, we can buy AD2 components (kits, pieces and beats) without "upgrading" anything else? I hope so. I didn't see any kind of announcement on their site, although I guess I wouldn't be eager to make one myself...

Interesting Post ...I purchased AD 2 sometime back ...well before Platinum
had some slight problems getting the ADpaks deal ...XLN customer service was prompt in their replies to help solve my problem. That's about it ... since purchasing Platinum, I've had to purchase the midi paks ... no problems with that process

Wish I could help with others' difficulties...

Here's my take on that Larry (from experience)...

Yes - no further upgrades required.

If you got AD2 with Sonar X3 Producer you got the ADpaks/MIDIpaks/Kitpiece as defined in post #2.

If you upgraded to:
Sonar Platinum - you get an additional 3 x ADPaks, 3 x MIDIPaks, 3 x Kitpieces, of your choosing.
Sonar Professional -  you get an additional 1 x ADPak, 1 x MIDIPak, 1 x Kitpiece, of your choosing.
(Using the same AD2 Engine, and typically maintained through the XLN Online Installer (occasional patch updates which is notified from within the installer)).

You are free to purchase any additional XLN Paks/Pieces independent of Cakewalk. But it appears that XLN are no longer offering the Bundle Paks (independently).

Having looked at their site it just seems like theyve changed their product packaging.

They are still honouring the Sonar bundle, other than that everything is still the same. If you want to upgrade all your AD1 packs to use with AD2 you pay the upgrade price. It's been that way ever since AD2 was released I think.

I mean if you got AD1 with Sonar and AD2 with Sonar they're only asking you to upgrade your AD1 packs for a price.

If you want 3 more kits, midi packs and kit pieces, buy another copy of SONAR Platinum. You will have a year (from now) membership and the best prices on the Addictive Drums stuff. I may have talked myself into this.

OR....
You can look for a good deal at KVR..........I actually bought a couple of bundles and got more thrown in than what the Producer Bundles offered........for much less.

You can actually only get one copy of Platinum at the discounted/upgrade price. And buying a completely new license isn't a very good deal if all you want is the ADPacks.

FWIW I actually don't mind this system, I think they caused a lot of confusion by NOT having this system, especially for those of us who had AD1 and then got the AD2 bundle, what with the upgrade of old content being separate from the AD2 engine. It makes sense to me that you buy a drum program with some basic bread 'n' butter kits and then you can expand on it.

Thanks, Shellstax. That's what I'm hoping and expecting. For many reasons, I'm delighted that I went for X3 and then Platinum, but in the beginning it was Addictive Drums that sold me, because I was already looking for a 3rd party app that was better than Session Drummer. So if XLN was going to start getting hinky, I'd be unhappy, and maybe un-Addicted.
