Adding FX to a portion of a track?

I saw a video of doing this in the sonaru area..
If I understand, they dragged and dropped an FX from the Browser into a small segment of a track.
IOW it did not affect anything but this small selection.
When I do it, it affects the whole track.

You can add an effect to a clip and it will only affect that clip.  If you have a long clip, you can use the split command to break it into a smaller piece to which you can add an effect to.

You can drag an effect directly from the browser, or you can right click on the clip and choose "add effect".

Aha, they did not appear to have split the clip but I can see that should work.

Splitting the clip will let you control exactly where the effect kicks in and kicks out.

Also, if you have a region that you want effected, but there are several clips, you can bounce them all to a single clip and then put the effects on the new one.

remember in most VST 's etc.. you can add automation to the "dry / wet" ratio of the fx in question. which would be handy to achieve what you want to do

or you can just duplicate a clip/channel put the fx on also..

there is LOTS of ways to do the same thing.

Yep. Clip FX is one possibility. I usually use that method if it's a once or twice thing in a track. If it's more than that I'll use automation either on the effect directly or to a buss with the effect on.

There's lots of ways to skin a cat.

I did get a lockup doing this. It seems CPU intensive.
But mostly I'm stoked to have more control.
Thanks Guys, I'll have to try the copied track method and the automation.
Both of which I actually understand (so proud!) but need to spend the time to work out the details. A learning project to look fwd to.

Using the original method, is there a way to copy one setup to another?
IOW I want to use the same settings for several clips but using this method of drag and drop, I need to set all the parameters up again.
I imagine like dragging the setup FX from one clip to another rather than from the browser?
Would this be where automation on an effect for the whole track would be faster to do and/or create less CPU demand?

I guess I'm not understanding because that seems to make a whole new track rather than copy and pasting just the FX into a new location of the existing track.

I've always had to save a preset if I want to use the same settings on an effect in several tracks or on the same instrument in a few different mixes.
