Adding Rehearsal Letters/TEXT in Staff view ...Cakewalk Sonar X1

Hi.. Newbee here..so will probably ask loads of questions!
Is it possible to add Rehearsal letters   A,B,C etc to parts written in STAFF VIEW?
If so..Whats the best way?
Also is it easy to add text to a midi track to print out?
Sorry if this seems basic! It's easy when you know how!
Thanks in advance
Dave

Cakewalk's Staff View is intended to be an entry tool primarily, although it does also have options for printing for simple lead sheets, etc. Customization options are somewhat limited. Depending on what you are trying to do, you might be better served in exporting your MIDI track data to a notation application capable of doing what you need - some are free, some not.
That said - something that might be useful for you to try out, is to change the track name (in track view, just double click on the track name) of the part you want to see in staff view - for example where track 4 in a project here is "Kontakt 5 2" (where SONAR auto derived from softsynth name and instance), you can change this to "Part A" - which will display immediately below and to the left of the staff when it is selected in Staff View. (You can do this temporarily while you print the notation, and change the name back in track view to whatever is more meaningful in your project).
Hope that helps - otherwise lots of notation options are available to do what you need.

As for adding text - only SONAR option is into the lyric field (below staff view) - but I don't recommend as it is subject to hyphenation etc which would require a lot of messing around.
One easy way to do what you want, however, is to use a PDF driver as your "printer". (CUTE PDF is a free, widely available one, but there are lots available). In SONAR, set your printer up to print to your PDF driver, then use a recent version of Adobe Reader to add text, stickies, comments, etc to the PDF file, resave, print, etc. Note that SONAR "prints" the PDF file including your project title, you as the composer, etc, so you will only be able to add to the printout - but for quick and easy lead sheets it may suffice.
    Hope this helps.

As noted above, the only option for text in staff view is to add lyrics. Rehearsal marks aren't available AFAIK. I use Notion when I want anything but the most basic notation print out.

Click the Expression button, place the cursor where you want the text and type.

Good to know Greg. I naively presumed this would be limited to expression specific information. Hope the OP comes back around to see this. I don't use the current notation view as much as I used to as I have found other work around alternatives (still hope Cake continues to improve this in the future).
    Thanks again!

The expression tool could be used as a work around, but rehearsal marks are placed above the staff and are often boxed or circled. It's just not the real thing and not as easy to read.

Sounded like he was looking for functions in sonar for rehearsal purposes. He's got some options at least.

Don't know what rehearsal letters are or where they're supposed to be; I don't read music. But from the info in these posts it seems that you would be able to use the Chord tool to enter letters... at least up to G. Those would be above the staff.
Thinking further, perhaps one could find the file where the chord letters and diagrams are and add whatever letters and words you want to that file so that they appear in the chord list, like we do for custom track icons.

That's some good out of the box thinking!
