Adding vocals to instrumental track HELPPP

I just recently got Sonar 8 and all I want to do is add vocals over an instrumental track but everytime I import the track to the grid it is slowed down... Is there a way to turn off the tempo in Sonar and just go free handed? It does it with the vocals too, I'll sing on beat, and after it is done recording, it will no longer be lined up.

What do i need to do?

Also, everytime I add the song, it gets distorted like it's being stretched out or something.

Hmmm, I don't think this is it, but maybe start by turning off Snap to Grid (the little icon button with a grid on it).

It hasn't been my experience that Sonar changes anything when you import (and I just recently imported a bunch of miscellaneous clips into a project).

Maybe describe what you're doing step by step, but basically all I've ever done is
    1) Insert an audio track
    2) Click on the track to select it
    3) Set the Now Marker to wherever I want to import (or rewind all the way)
    4) Go to File>Import to pull in the audio file

That's basically it, I'm hoping you're doing something a bit different that will lead us to the solution.

Sounds like your soundcard and SONAR are using different sample rate.
But withoiut knowing your gear specs it's hard to say. You might, for example be using a USB-mic which is the cause of problems.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

The OP has crossposted and has revealed elsewhere that he is using a USB mic.
