Adjusting Latency Freezes/ Crashes SONAR 8.5.3
I've suddenly began experiencing problems when I adjust the latency in SONAR. Any time I make an adjustment (raising the latency value for mixing purposes) SONAR freezes and I can only shut it down using task manager. I'm running SONAR on Window 7 64 bit version with a MOTU PCI-424 card. Has anyone else here experienced this problem and how were able to correct it?

MOTU? Isn't that Sonar's competitor? Maybe that's why it crashes. Though I'm not 100% sure. I have XP 32 bit, so maybe Windows 7 has problems with it.

Define "suddenly". Are you absolutely certain that nothing has changed in your system? This is most likely a driver or hardware issue - SONAR is hanging waiting for the change to happen and the interface is never coming back to say it happened.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

Huh? :) I and thousands of others use and have used MOTU sound cards with great results. Being a compeditor has Nothiing to do with it. Why would Motu or SONAR bite themsleves in the foot like that? It doesnt make any buisiness sence at all. Its not because of that! Its most likelt a driver setting or pc issue. Make sure you have the latest 64bit win 7 drivers from MOTu and try ASIO driver mode with an ASIO buffer of 512 or 1024 for mixing, just to see if it works. You can lower it to 192 or 256 afterwards, if needed Cj EDIT: Check for IRQ conflicts also

This is most likely a driver or hardware issue - SONAR is hanging waiting for the change to happen and the interface is never coming back to say it happened. I wasn't experiencing this type of behavior until recently. I've upgraded my OS from XP (SP2) to Windows 7. I was originally using the WDM drivers which seemed more stable with XP on my system. I think I've solved my issue. I believe it was a hardware setting issue!!! I changed the buffer settings in the audio console to 512 and switched to the ASIO drivers and that seems to work very well. I also ran Windows Defender and it found/ removed a virus and my system overall seems to be running very smoothly.

Glad all is solved. My gut instinct said audio driver mode as I read through. Would it be possible to change the thread title to solved for future readers in a similar conundrum? Rock on!

Yes, they are ALL competitors in one way or another -- but I'm using the Motu Ultralike MKiii (don't let the name ultralite fool ya!) --- it's been so rock steady for me. IT doesn't have the absolute "Lowest" latency - but it's worked flawlessfor me for a while now. Just thought I'd add that to at least offset the concept that competitors are always out to do each other. THey HAVE to co-exist to a degree (fortunatley for us all).
