Adjusting panning within a track?

Will Music Creator 2 let you adjust the panning within a track, for example fade left to right within the track?
Thanks.

Since I've never used MC2, I can't say for absolute certain, but I believe it can. See if this works. in the track view, right click on the track you want to change the panning on, in the menu, choose ENVELOPES>TRACK ENVELOPES>PAN (or something similar - I'm at work, not in front of CW). This will put a panning envelope on the track that you can add NODEs to and adjust the panning over time.

    Or
in track view - maximize the track [left side] and adjust pan by dragging the PAN graph left or right by percentage.

It is available for MIDI or AUDIO and in both cases is the second adjustment shown on the first line.

Beagle's way will also work and may give you added control.

I think he's talking about pan automation, which can be accomplished by a pan envelope and using a mouse to set nodes. It will NOT record automation however.

I saw something on the audio effects for MC Pro 24 called 'automatic crossfades'. Sounds like panning to me. I never researched it, though. Greg

no, automatic crossfades are for doing crossfades between two tracks to combine them into one smooth flowing part. one fades out as the next fades in.

Thanks, Beag, I guess I need to do the research before I shoot myself in the foot. Sorry if I misled you, MM. Greg

Thanks, gents. Seems that 'envelopes' are the way to go if I want to fade left and right within a track, but I'm having trouble seeing how to apply these mysterious 'envelopes'.

Ooooo! Oooo! Oooo! I know this one!

Automatic crossfades are for doing crossfades between two clips within a track to combine them into one smooth flowing part.

    To create a clip envelope:
    1. Right click on the clip in the clips pane.
    2. Select envelopes.
    3. Select what kind of envelope. (Pan, volume, etc.)
    4. You'll see a line going accross the clip.
    5. Double click anywhere on that line to insert a node. You then click and drag the nodes (or the line) up or down. Usually best to insert 2 nodes fairly close to each other if you want the change to occur abruptly, far apart if you want the change to occur slowly. You can also drag the nodes left or right.

Now, I think in MC2, you can also automate a track instead of a clip. The process is pretty much the same but select "track" envelope instead of "clip" envelope. But there's some things about this that can get tricky because you're actually automating a track and not just inserting a clip envelope.

just an FYI, you can do the same thing to a track with a gain envelope - so you can have some parts drop down in volume or rise in others - you still have to insert the nodes.

Keep in mind that a pan or gain envelope will be placed at 0 (centre) of the track view - regardless of where your panning is set in the mix, and you will be making adjustments from THAT point left or right \ up or down. Say you have gtr1 set to 75% left and add a pan envelope....while the envelope shows as being at 0% - it's just 0% relative to where you physically set the panning.

Gents, thanks for your help. This seems to be what I have been looking for.

After using MC2 for a year and a half I am finally 'pushing the envelope'...

    Ok, Horseshack!!! LOL!

and I may have misread the help files, but the AUTOMATIC CROSSFADES in the help file states that you use it for TWO TRACKS, the CROSSFADE will help transition volume between two clips on a track.

again - I may have misunderstood the help file, but that's what I was quoting.
