Adversity - piano solo and video!

Hi,

Having had the luxury of a couple of days of peaceful spare time in the last few weeks I had the time to make some new music and here's the result.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aybzA_4cR80

It's a solo piano piece inspired by the obstacles that sports people have to overcome to represent their country. There's an obvious tie-in to the Paralympics this summer but the same adversity is faced, and has to be overcome, by able-bodied competitors too - just to be considered for even possibly being able to maybe represent their country if they're lucky.

Imagine the years of training, the stress of the national trials, and the joy of finally being there and competing... that's what inspired me, hopefully it shows through in the music.

Cheers,
Terry.

    Watching this makes me sad I never really took the time to get decent at piano playing. You have great touch and feel.

    very well executed.

    I imagine there was many years of training that went into being able to play to that level .... just like the Olympians spend years to get to the level they are at in their chosen field of endevour.

    well played

    The song itself is okay but definitely could use some variation.
    The song definitely has potential - maybe variation is all it needs!

    Hi Terry, excellent, quite "hymn-like" in places. Great use of dynamics. Keep 'em coming : )

    Wow! Well chuffed by the response to this... thanks for taking the time to listen and comment.

    @jamesyoyo - it's never too late! Thanks for the comment.

    @guitarhacker - probably more years than there should have been! Thanks!

    @Karyn - Thanks!

    @darylcrowley - I wasn't aware of Liz Story so I checked out her music... she's great! Which makes this a great compliment... thanks!

    @daryl1968 - yup, you got me... I use EZKeys but mimed on the video to make it look more impressive. PMSL. Thanks for the compliment, "wide recognition" would be great! ;-)

    @Lynn - Thanks! Bow taken!

    @shawn - thanks - it's my parents' fault, they forced me to have lessons from when I was 7 years old. I'm not complaining now, and haven't complained about it since I started enjoying it.

    @foxwolfen - thanks!

    @beagle - thanks!

    @Rik - yes, I though it was a bit 'chord progression' based at time which I guess is where you get 'hymn-like' from.

    @Allan - could you clarify what you mean by "variation"? I already vary bass notes, left hand rhythm, speed, chord progressions, and tone throughout the music. I'm not being difficult or anything like that I'm just genuinely interested in the details of your opinion so that I can avoid lack of 'variation' in future compositions. It's a bit late for this one, it's already on iTunes, but if my future tracks can be better with your feedback then bring it on!

    Immense thanks to everyone for listening and commenting.

    Cheers,
    Terry.

    Thanks Marius - for taking the time to listen and for the positive comment. You get practising now... I expect to hear some amazing licks in the near future.

    Cheers,

    I have to agree with James and others...I wish I would have practiced more.  Unfortunately, it CAN be too late too start for some, when pain starts making it impossible to practice enough. Makes me sad when some of my very talented students quit cause they just don't enjoy it.

    Anyway, this song has made me reflective, as you can see.  It's extremely beautiful and well done. Lots of dynamics and changes and cool licks and hooks and a great theme, well thought-out.  Just beautiful.  I think you've captured very well the theme of adversity we all go through.

    I'm still one of your biggest fans, I'm sure....and I hope you get millions more. :)

    Oh yes, me too... fingers crossed! (Although I guess it might not be as simple as crossing digits... anyone got a few thousand pounds going spare for marketing purposes?) ;-)

    Hmmm, thought I'd commented on this the other day, obviously not !

    To be honest, I didn't really relate the music to the theme and it wouldn't have brought that to mind for me if you hadn't mentioned it, but that doesn't detract from it at all.  Another one for the wish I could play like that club here. A pleasure to see someone with real talent walking the walk.

    LOL @ ABull - his comment needs some variation ! ;)
