Advice on equipment

I've got a Zoom R-16 which I would like to use as an interface with Sonar.  Yes, I understand it may not be the best quality interface, but I like the fact it doubles as a portable recorder for use in the field.  Can it be used with Sonar Producer?

Also, I had the Studio 8.5, but had great trouble ever getting it to work.  It just seemed too complicated.  I even put an ad in Craig's List for someone with knowledge to help me, but that didn't go anywhere.  I ended up reverting back to my Roland VS 1880 which I felt comfortable with, but knew it had big limitations.

I got the promo on X1, and it seemed to imply it was easier to use that the older versions.

I must say, I now really appreciate Microsoft and it's office products which allow a novice to very quickly and easily grasp how to do the basic operations but have a huge wealth of complicated capabilities that an advanced user can make use of.  Sonar 8.5 seemed only able to accomodate the latter.

I know some happy Z16 users, with SONAR and other DAWs. It should be fine. Get Zooms ASIO-drivers for it.

IMO SONAR isn't any more complicated to get working than most DAWs. There are the same basic things that must be set. Using a more limited software requires less settings, but gives you less options, as well.

The usability improvements in X1 have less to do with making it work (i.e. choosing the drivers, setting latency and learn about routing). They're more about the workflow.

In using office products there are so much less variables that it's not fair to compare a DAW with something that simple. How many hundreds of different soundcard brands has MS Word have to cope with?  Using a text editor you already know the terminology, like "paragraph" or "hyphen". Respectively, starting DAW work you should spend days in internet finding out what is "latency", "buffer" etc.. There's a 1500 page manual with SONAR. I'm sure anyone can proceed after reading it properly.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
