Advice on rock song mix would be much appreciated

Advice from this group has helped hugely with previous projects. I'd be extremely grateful for any advice on the mix of this rock song. I'm singing and playing some lead and rhythm guitar, Mark Gatland is playing bass, and Ibon Bilbao playing lead and rhythm guitars (the twiddlier 2nd half of the guitar solo).

My specific queries would be -
do the drums sound OK?
is the bass at an appropriate level?
is it too muddy?

[I'm coming to the end of my summer holiday, and I'd be keen to get it sent to the distributor before I go back to work in a couple of days.]

Best wishes, Malcolm

Ok, It sounds really guitar/vocals heavy here. Bring those down or the rest up a bit (if you have the headroom). Cymbals are coming through ok but the kick & the snare sound low & I would cut some lows/add some upper mids to the kick to give it a little more snap (attack) it sounds very low toned and is getting lost. It also sounds like you left a lot of lows in the rhythm guitars & that is masking the bass guitar. Highpass the guitars around 80 hz or so to start & Q to taste til the rumble goes away and the bass has room to sit. There's my 2 cents. Hope it helps ya!

Hi, Malcolm, your performances on this tune are super, and the song really rocks.  Depending on how much headroom you have, I usually prefer to bring the other instruments up to balance with the vocal.  However, panning the guitars wider would really help this mix, as it's somewhat narrow on my speakers.  There's a lot of things competing with each other for attention in the middle.  The stereo spectrum is still 180 degrees.  That being said, I somewhat like wide mixes, especially for songs like this.  Also, there might be a little overcompression going on, so be careful with the limiter or compressor.  Otherwise, this is ready to take off.

All the best,
Lynn

The whole thing, though well played, sounds thin to me.  I agree that drums and bass need to be more up front.  Not far from being a really nice tune/mix.

I got redirected to FB and I don't do FB, sorry. I've enjoyed some of your earlier stuff. Not really cool to redirect people like that.

And that link in my last post, takes me to a Facebook page. I checked it several times...

I don't dispute that others may be getting something different? However, this is what happened "to me" when I followed the links posted. I understand that a lot of folks work on getting their FB likes up? I'm just saying, "for me?" I'd rather see a FB link than an RN link that "takes me to FB..."

And that seems to me to be a reasonable request.
Thanks.

"What do you know? Something reasonable... From me?"

I think it may have something to do with RN's option... I am an RN member, which is why it may have taken me there if he purchased this. However, "AND AGAIN!" If I click an RN link from Cake? I do not wish to be redirected to FB "period..." Nuff said.

Nice song and nicely performed. It has great energy and it really rocks! The mix needs some work as per comments above.

1. No. They are lost. IMO
2. No.
3. Yes.

This is a guitar song but honestly all I hear is guitar. Ohhhhh, I see from your avatar you are a guitar player. That 'splains it.

Sorry it was taking you to a FB page. When I click it it takes me to a RN page that has the relevant song first. Sorry for any inconvenience.

But I'm not sure which song to listen to, Is it the second song While I still can or the first Invisible?.

Sorry about the redirect. I had no idea. For some reason I'd stopped geting notifications about replies to my original post, and it was only today that I saw that there had been problems opening up the song, so I replied with my apologies. Frail Hurricane has now been released (with the comments from the forum helping greatly in the revised version). Currently While I Still can and Invisible are unfinished demos.
