After 8.5 upgrade, songs do not stop at end when playing

I just upgraded to Sonar 8.5 Producer. When I play my songs, they continue to play silence past the ending and never stop unless I hit the stop button.
Is this automatic-stop-at-end-of-song feature something which can be switched on or is it a malfunction?
 Thank you.

Sejn, this has always been a mystery to me.  I've never understood how Sonar determines when to stop at the end of a song.  Like in my current project, it stops playback 6 measures after the last note.  In some projects, it will stop just where it should.  In yet other projects, it never stops.

It must have to do with stray MIDI data stretching beyond the end of a song.  Often a MIDI track will for some reason display at a much longer length than it actually is.  My guess is that these bogus lengths are determining what Sonar is basing the song's length on.

I'll be interested in what one of the experts here can tell us.

Check your clips. SONAR will play to the end of the longest midi clip, even if the clip is empty.

I think a per-song "Set Last Measure" option would have helped. Then you can set the last measure to be 120 or whatever (and 0 for no end) and you never have to wonder what is going to happen.

I think you are too kind.  I have searched for MIDI events or any other kind of events in any track beyond the "intended" end point without luck.  I have got into the habit of forcing some (otherwise meaningless) MIDI CC data some measures after the intended end, simply to act as a long-stop. It mostly works, but not always, which leads me to wonder whether FX tails are somehow causing the transport to be kept running and the level never actually drops to whatever is defined as "done".

    Ahhhhh....FX tails....hmmmmm....
With all the weird VSTs out there I would not be surprised if that's at least part of it.
Although I'm not sure what you'd be able to do about it...
